11th Year Servicing - 37161 kms -04-08-2023
So exactly
after 8,819 kms and about 5 years+ from the last oil change in March 2018, it was high time to get the car serviced. Yes, I know the mileage was pretty low in last few years and there is no excuse for not changing the oil earlier but no issues of any kind cropped up or were found due to this delayed oil change (in terms of the period). The delay was probably due to the fact that the official oil change in terms of kms need to be done every 15000 kms.
Anyways, the odo was at 37,161 kms -
Reached my FNG which is incidentally owned by a friend. He helped me in the last oil change too, 5 years back, if you will remember from the previous posts. He had by now upgraded his Castrol authorised auto service point -
The car was jacked up on the newly installed hoist lifts. Last time around these were not available, so it was a relief and made the job easier -
And the engine protection plate was removed. As mentioned in my earlier posts, it requires removal of 6 x 13mm nuts and 8 x T25 Torx plastic screws -
Here it is removed after a thorough wash
Next, as before, the oil filter was removed and the engine oil drain plug (Torx 40) was removed to drain the old oil -
New
crush washer (Rs. 160/-) being added to the drain plug. Although the dealership had even provided me with a new drain plug nut (rs. 174/-), which was incidentally now of Torx 45 head instead of the current T40 head, we did not feel any need to replace it, as the current one was in perfect condition. Only the crush washer, as mentioned, was replaced with a new one -
Fresh VW 4.6L oil was filled up -
After subsequently replacing the new oil filter (Rs. 736/-), the car was started and the drain plug was again checked for any
leaks before replacing the engine bash plate -
Next the air filter was opened up but was found to be in quite good condition, so we just gave it a clean up and did not replace with the new one (Rs. 1030/-) and kept it for a later date. The cabin filter was also still good and was cleaned up to be replaced with a new one (Rs. 1902/-) later. Last the spark plugs were opened up, detailed procedure and video I have already mentioned in my earlier posts, and given a gentle clean up and gap checked. They still had more than half of their scheduled life left -
WD40 Specialist Contact Cleaner was used to clean them, and did a commendable job -
The petrol filter (I have 2 new ones in stock, btw) also had more than half of it's scheduled life left and hence was not tinkered with. With all mechanical jobs completed, it was time to move to the washing area and the car was given a comprehensive under-body wash, 1st after nearly 5 years -
The engine bay was carefully and meticulously cleaned by me personally, especially the top TSI plastic cover over the spark plugs -
Loving shampooing -
And then a thorough final rinse -
The 'Superb' was happy -
Wipe down done -
The wheel wells and the wheels looking impeccable -
As did the completed engine bay -
Time for some
carnauba wax magic -
Fully applied
And then the after effect of the completed job -
Close up of a 11 year old car's paint -
And the car was ready for departure -
The interiors were cleaned too and were holding up excellently -
Parting shot before heading home -
A job done well and ready to take the next few years in it's stride. Total damages for the labour was 500 bucks for the wash and polish and 500 for the service help, as my friend said that I tackled most of the jobs myself. Total 1000 bucks, not bad.
Cheers for now...
