Finally! It's installed. Bluetooth works fine and dandy, including calls, phone book, music, the works. Really have to appreciate the efforts made by the workshop guys, Samir, Prashant, Sujin. From what i know, i think they spoke to mansur from pune as well. Thanks a lot, ayedongivadam, and everyone else for the help. Took much longer at the workshop than I thought, but it was worth it. Cost me 900 bucks with a job card. There was no talk of warranty, or lack of it today.

Good to know that the Bluetooth unit is installed without much fuss. You should have told the workshop people to charge you the same amount what VW Pune charged Ayedongivadam, why overcharge. Finally you would be able to make complete use of the HU for what it was designed in the beginning.

Now Ayedongivadam needs to come up with another DiY for all the Jetta owners to follow up & spice up their ride. Waiting for the next one.

Thanks, it is really satisfying to make full use of the unit. Discovered that it displays the song details of the audio coming through BT. I didnt expect that. On the charges, all I can say is that I'm choosing the battles I want to fight carefully

Great, enjoy your cars new functionality!

Given the number of people on here that have ordered their BT modules from another country and are putting themselves through hoops to get it installed, I wonder why VW hasn't even after almost a year of the Jetta being launched still made available these things in the country? It would go a long way in improving every Jetta owners customer experience not to mention more cash into VW pockets. Accessories and after-market add-ons I'm finding out are really not a strong point with them.

Any how, I'm back to researching more stuff to add-on

I have a feeling it has to do with the local accessories tie ups. For example the blue tooth kit they are offering in Showrooms are the ugly on the dashboard ones. I went to the sundaram show room today and gave them the part number. They have no clue about the part and have never done even one installation and were insisting on getting the ugly looking kit.

I have asked them to come with an estimated cost to procure from their EU counterpart if needed. Will update once i get some answers. Even if its few thousand rupees more atleast they should give a response on procurement of the module.

Re: VW Jetta MKVI DSG - Update: DIY Mods and Pics on Page 8

VW2010, I have gone through this whole process before, including sitting with them while they opened their global parts system and confirming the right part number. The workshop, at least here, seems to have no bargaining power, or ability to influence the system. They made zero headway in procuring the part, or even figuring out how to do it. I don't think the company ever responded to them properly. I followed up for 3 months. In fact, that was one of the reasons why these guys understood that there is no system-based way for them to get it done.

I would suggest you not wait for VW India to get back to you, it does not seem like they are interested in the accessories business. Instead get whatever you want added on from abroad ensuring its a genuine VW part and sweet talk your workshop guys in helping you to install it.

Agreed Ayedongivadam.

In a nut shell they are useless. They said they dont have the parts nor dont have any clue on how to install as they have never done this before.

And i understand its simple plug and play and we just need someone to help move the wires through the dash and to the roof console(for mic)

I may actually do it outside VW if they are not aware or dont want to do anything like that.

The next thing i am interested is to see if we can retrofit a reverse camera and use the RCD510 for the same.

Here is a neat trick that i accidently discovered. Switch of the engine. Turn your left indicator on or the right indicator when your warning sounds starts flickering. Now use the remote and lock your car. Your day time lights are automatically switched on for warning any potential hazards while parking. Neat but i think it should be in the manual.

You can definitely do it yourself but you need access to change the blue-tooth coding in your cars control unit. This is possible outside a VW workshop using a Ross-Tech cable and software.

The camera is another do-able mod, but you will first need to make sure if your RCD unit has a RGB connector on the back for video input. Post that its quite a simple job.

Yes, the single side park light is pretty neat, there is a reference in the manual to it also, I'm sure I read it in there.

It is in the manual. It has always been a feature of VAG cars. It has become smarter in terms of that if you switch off with the indicator on, the park light will not switch on. Once you switch ignition off and switch off indicator and switch on for appropriate side, it works.

To add RGB input as well as 3 Video Inputs to our RCD510/Bolero units, this is what you need - INTERFACE VIDEO FOR RCD510 RCD 510 | eBay

Its a pretty do-able job but involves a bit of soldering but the final result is an oem job with oem finish. The interface has 3 video inputs and RGB. An input can be programmed to come on when you engage reverse for a rear camera too.
It has to be fitted INSIDE the stereo, so would advise that you are sure you have a good idea what you're doing before turning your Bolero/RCD in to a door stop! There is a installation guide (which is pretty detailed with photos to open the RCD/Bolero unit) you can download from the Ebay page if you wanna have a look what it entails before having a go.

In the end you will get something like this -

Re: VW Jetta MKVI DSG - Update: DIY Mods and Pics on Page 8

Nothing much, just putting up some pics of a weekend getaway. Tried the ground clearance out on some really rough back roads around the place. No scrapes at all, come to think of it in all this time the GC (159mm) has never been an issue over city roads or its ill designed speed(car)breakers.

From the base to the top - Actually the Jet' wasn't supposed to make the trip due to three large patches of washed out sections of the road. But we fell short of a car at the time. So it was heigh ho silver away!

After having cleared the bad sections for a second time on the way down. I could finally relax for a couple of snaps.

Hey, Ayedongivadam, just saw your car parked in the city earlier this afternoon. Must say the mods look brilliant in person! The badges and the blacked out tail lights look awesome, to say the least!
