Namaskaram, Motorheads of Team-BHP

Namaskaram BHPians!
Thank you moderators for accepting my membership request.

My short name is Subbu. I am from Chennai, TN. I am IT guy working in Finance industry.

I have been hooked to TBHP ever since I saw the 'Live to Drive' sticker on rear windshield. Then stumbled upon the forum through Google, while searching for inputs for my first car (2nd hand) in India Benz E220 Kompressor. The forum helped me understand maintenance cost involved. Sadly,.I had to sell it to the First owner as they were sentimentally attached to it.

I got fascinated with two wheelers when my uncle used to take my cousins and me for short rounds on his Bajaj Chetak, when I was 5 or 6 years old. The fire to ride/drive has been with me ever since I enjoyed the wind in my face during those short rounds around the neighborhood.

I taught myself to ride a bicycle at 9 years old when my dad got me a small cycle (about 2 ft) for a whole month during summer holidays. Soon after, I got my first ride: Blue Colour Hercules Captain cycle.

Next ride was TVS 50 XL (TAF 922) that my dad bought; my dad was probably the first person (I knew) to have had a driver for a Two Wheeler ( to his defense: he had polio and could not learn to drive). Again, I taught myself to drive the moped and got my license at 16 and took over the driver duty for my dad. Dad and me have been to 30 KM radius of Cuddalore (25 KM south of Pondicherry). I also learnt drive Auto Rickshaw too at this time.

I learned to drive a car when I was in USA from 2005 to 2010. My First Car was Infiniti i30 (I consciously stayed from Altima, Accord, Camry, etc.) bought in 2006 in California (Infiniti is luxury brand of Nissan, akin to Lexus of Toyota). Obviously, the most memorable drives are along the Pacific coast from San Francisco to LA along California 1. I moved to Texas in 2008 along with my i30. I had to sell my i30 as I moved back to India for good in 2010. While in US, I liked Infiniti FX35 and was earmarked as an upgrade.

Back in India, pretty much soon after I returned I got my first bike: Pulsar 220F (back then the Fastest Indian). Actually, I ventured into Bajaj Showroom in Adyar seeing the green grasshopper: the Kawasaki Ninja 350; but settled for the black beaut P220F. Pulsar 220F is still driving like a dream.

My first car in India was Benz E220 Kompressor, bought in 2017 and sold in 2020. Silver Slider was pleasure to drive, real beauty. I got it for a cost much cheaper than Swift at that time. Sad that I had to give it away.

Just today (16-May), I have paid an advance for 2022 Honda Amaze VX CVT (to be christened as Muthu - Pearl in Tamil) with 12K KMs on ODO. The car will be used for daily commutes. Again, the forum helped me to zero in on the car with valuable reviews.

BTW, I said that I have zeroed in on Nexon EV as my next car as part of TBHP Forum admission question paper (). However, turn of events, I need to go for Amaze for now.

I have a request to Moderators: Can T- BHP become Rotten Tomatoes/IMDB/Meta Critic of Indian Vehicles; specifically can we assign ratings to the cars being reviewed? We already have detailed reviews and if we can bring in a rating system it will be even more easy for people to choose a vehicle. The ratings can come from.thw expert reviewers and as well as owners who are members here.

I am a Dog dad.for Five Indie pups (not really pups). Already too long a post, so not getting in to myriad of other interests including about my pet kids.

Final word: For me, driving is meditative in experience and thus yoga: essentially my Body, Inteĺlect, Emotions and Energy comes together as I drive! Inwards to Enlightenment!

Nandri & Namaskaram,
Carma Yogi!

You sold the car back to the seller? Wow. That would make for quite a new thread!

Haha! The joke then was, when an Indian lands in the USA, he buys a Camry / Accord, a camcorder, Nike shoes & a Costco membership within the first month. I was in the States then and can certainly attest to that phenomena.

Glad you broke out from the crowds with your Infiniti.

Congrats! I am too, a big believer of pre-owned cars, especially those that are <3 years old.

I don't watch any movie without checking out its IMDB & Rotten Tomatoes scores first. But not sure if that will be the right approach for cars.

Please do start a new thread on your used Mercedes experience & why you sold it back to the 1st-owner. Like, FULL details with pictures and all.
