Hi Everyone,
It's expected to be an introduction message. Please forgive, if it seems full essay. This thread has prompted me to think about days, which I was never able to recall and cherish in today's hectic life of cosmopolitans.
I am semi-conductor engineer by profession(and yes I am in no way related to its shortage
) and have seen 40 years fly-by till now. My major work focus is leading chip design with wireless connectivity targeted for IoT markets. I am basically from Uttarakhand and was working in NCR for around 5 years. I have now settled in Pune for last 13 years.
My first wheel rides since I entered teens was 18 inch cycle shared with my sibling. Of-course it upgraded in few years to 22-inch Atlas Hercules(I am not sure if I recalled the brand correctly ). I was second hand owner of this prize which my maternal grandfather gifted us. Post-intermediate, went to engineering and father thought that I need something better. As a result I got 24-inch Hero champion with stylish carrier
. This allowed me to tow two of my colleagues for frequent trips to dinner at road side dhabas outside the campus. My 74 year father still drives his 34 year Bajaj Chetak in my hometown and has kept it ageless. He thinks spending huge amount on car is wastage of money and better to hire taxi instead of keeping such a depreciating asset. This rubbed on to me for some time and I have till today kept my first love Flame Red Pulsar 150 Dtsi 2004 model(with round light) in very good state. Already extended its registration by another five year and it is still serving well for daily nearby commutes to markets where four-wheeler footprint don't exist.
I never felt to buy a car till we got news of new family member arriving in 2011. This was the first time, I went into R & D overdrive as first four-wheeler vehicle is something you cannot go wrong with. During this time, I came across Team BHP threads. It was glued to forums searching threads to extract information to make correct decision. Genuine reviews and detailed thorough knowledge shared on how different things in car operate was a great knowledge source to build my understanding of this genius machinery. After much deliberation, I banked on tried and tested Hyundai Accent Executive 2011. Of-course, has to bear the brunch of wife for buying a 1999 car over modern ones like swift and other new boys. However, this car has served me well. It is proper sedan(at price of hatchbacks), sorted car which never left me stranded in middle of road and is pleasure to drive with good boot for drives with babies essentials. With the memorable drives we had with our accent, finally wife appreciated my decision.
All was good till our second bundle of joy arrived in 2017. Accent still served us well. However, it's age began to show-up. With a view to keep accent for city and short drives, we started looking out for our next ride around 2020 and then covid struck. As soon as covid eased, I had made up my mind that it has to be seven-seater to accommodate four of us and parents. Now with Tata launching Safari, Mahindra upsetting market with XUV700 introduction, Innova Crysta already in frame as value for money and Scorpio-n to be expected in 2022, lot of confusion and questions cropped up in mind. A lot of Automotive YouTube channels added to confusion as I could see some bias in there. So, I again started revisiting Team BHP threads to get genuine views and real experience from owners/enthusiastic drivers with great technical understanding about the buzz-words of new cars.
Thanks to all BHPians, forum helped me to take informed decision to book Tata Safari XZA+ Dark Edition. The beast got delivered couple of days back and whole family is awestruck by its looks, comfort and convenience. It is at this point of time I thought about sharing my experiences with Team, as I benefited a lot through the forum. Therefore, I applied for membership and our generous moderators provided me with a chance to contribute back wherever I could.
Will soon be sharing details about my car hunt experience, new Tata Safari XZA+ Dark(pros and cons,) my delivery experience so far coupled with some long drive experiences.
Till Then, keep revving.....
Thanks for bearing the long post!
