Hey there!

Hi BHPians. I'm really glad to join you guys today.

I have been following the community since a few years now and consider myself as an automobile and technology enthusiast with experience in managing multiple forums and communities in the past having owned a tech-related community ~ 10,000 members on Orkut.

I have owned a couple of cars since the inception of our (and probably most of yours) first family car, Maruti Suzuki 800 (2004 model, AC Variant, Silky Silver). It's still running strong due to high maintenance and modest usage (~ 45000 kms)

After approx. a decade, we had to have a modern day machine to keep up with the personal demands, today's standards and ofcourse because the drivers at home outnumbered the cars
After rigorous research and reading reviews on team-bhp and a couple of other sources, we zeroed-in on the 'not so old at the time' -- Hyundai Grand i10 Petrol Asta trim, and after 2 years of decent usage, I can't be more satisfied (Details on that later in a separate thread)

After two years, I am now planning to get a taste of Premium Hatchback to replace my good ol' 800. I may keep the vintage for a while for the sake of practicing for a new driver @ home as this 'no maintenance' car is still in excellent condition. Hope to get a good price for it when I sell it off by next year.

I have already done my homework on the Premium hatchback segment and based on my budget of 6 - 6.5 lacs, I have booked the Baleno Delta 1.2 Petrol at Nexa last month as it seemed the strongest contender in the Petrol engine with the space and features I wanted. Previously, I had given a thought on Figo Titanium as well but the lethargic petrol engine, not so premium feel and sales figure drove me off. I am still keeping an eye on the upcoming models in the specified price bracket as the waiting period is too long (9 months) and booking amount is fully refundable. Any suggestions are welcome.

Thanks GTO/Admin to approve the registration request. Looking forward to interact with you all frequently. There's a lot of knowledge and information waiting to be shared. After all, sharing is caring :-)

~ Aman

Yes, our first car too was a Maruti 800 1997 model in white shade. Currently we own a Maruti Suzuki Ritz petrol.

Re: Hey there!

Hi Aman,

Welcome to Team-BHP. The Hyundai Grand i10 is a fantastic car to own - good looks, god quality and easy to drive and live with. The Baleno is also very good product. It's got excellent interior space and a great petrol engine. The Elite i20 is another car in the segment that is worth recommending.

Of course. We should share whatever knowledge we have and at the same time, keep learning from others.

See you on the forum.

Thanks Tojo! Good to know about you, and congrats to you as well on joining TBhp

Yeah managing the community wasn't easy but it's equally fun when you got a passion for something!

Thank you Aditya for the warm Welcome and the recommendation. Ofcourse the learning never ends. I have read a lot of your posts in the past and found them really helpful.

Elite i20 is still in my consideration. It's just that the variant which has the feature I require the most (Climate Control) costs 80k bucks more in i20 and FE is on the lower side. Let's see how it works out. Will raise the discussion in an appropriate thread. Hope to see your inputs there.

Hi amutreja,

Welcome to the forum. I am also a new born here just like few of us.

Going through your above quote, are you a fan of the climate control feature? Though I have had this feature in my previous cars and still have in my XUV W10, but I never use it. I don't like the sudden blast of air it throws and the air noise accompanying it..

I like to set the AC and the fan speed as per my liking. After starting the engine and the fan, I switch on the AC after few seconds while the windows are open. This is when the car is parked outside in open. After which I slowly adjust the temperature and the fan speed.

Would request you to elaborate the reason of your loved feature and how do you make most use of it. I may be missing something.

Thanks.

Hi Drive Head,

Hope you are doing great. Your curiosity is natural. So far, I haven't used CC System on regular basis as both my cars don't have it and I've found myself switching fan speeds low & high continuously when AC is on mainly due to fluctuating temperatures inside the cabin. Many times it becomes too cold at Level 2 and too hot at Level 1. There's no solution in between. The temperature knob is just a gimmick. It doesn't work as I want it to be.

Climate control let's you set the chill in the air with great variation like the A/Cs at our homes. Just set the most appropriate setting for you and forget about it.

Well that's not the sole reason to choose Baleno. Cabin & boot space is better in Maruti. I also liked the driveability, all black interiors and mileage as compared to i20. I even get ABS & Airbags + Rear wiper and defogger in Delta variant. Hyundai tends to miss these essential features in lower variants which led me to buy Asta variant in Grand i10 too.
