This was the launch of the team and the unveiling of the new Silver Arrows livery.

The actual 2010 challenger, the MGP 01 will make its first public appearance during the Valencia test on February 1st.

The legend goes that, the Mercedes Grand Prix cars of the 1930's ran unpainted to save weight as to fall below the maximum weight limit and pass the scrutinizing.

Thus the silver aluminium body was exposed during the races and the nickname Silver Arrow was born.

The new silver colour scheme continues this traditional racing livery and as a reminder, the MGP W01's nose is raw carbon fibre.

It will be interesting to see who will be carrying this theme this season now that Mclaren & Mercedes have almost becoming 2 different entities in F1.
I think McLaren will retain this theme, the Brawn GP, oops, Mercedes Petronas team too would like something in the form of silver for Kubica and Schumi. Last year's yellow was too boring in my opinion.

Mercedes GP sure looking purty. Will be rooting for them this season...because of schumi. Though I still got my heart on Ferrari so I'll be rooting for them as well .

late on responding to this particular post. Though considering Ferrari have stopped development of 2009 car halfway through last season and focussed entirely on 2010 car. One can assume they may have a very challenging package.

@kaynmantis I feel you man, being a tifosi is difficult these days. My loyalty too is split but largely towards Schumi / Brawn as Ferrari was revived by them. Last year too I was more Brawn fan rooting for the underdogs. I loved their color too

This year I am all MercGP. Nice alloys on the car

This year is going to be a thriller.

It is going to be long on every car this season as refuelling has been banned and the cars have to run the complete race distance with a single load of fuel (speculated to be around 150 kgs) . It will be interesting to see how the rest of them squeeze various parts into their cars without increasing wheelbase.

Is it just me or does anybody else think the exhausts on the Ferrari are way too forward ? It's way too obvious when you compare it to the Merc.

The front brake ducts are placed lower too...

Both cars look dramatically different. The nose, the side vents, exhaust. Hmm if one of them performs well the other wont.

Mercedez only launched their livery on the 2009 championship winning car.Their 2010 challenger will be launched only at Valencia.Ferrari are the first to launch their 2010 car.

Hence this different looks

I think even Mercedez 2010 car will be more or less the same with the longer wheelbase to accomodate the bigger fuel tank
