Finally the design of the F1 track being built by Jaypee group is out.
On first look, it looks like just another Hermann Tilke track, may be he has run out ideas. :Frustrati
It looks a lot similar to Istanbul track, with some sweeping corners. But will it be good enough when it comes to actual racing? I am hoping that it will have some elevation changes as well, other wise it will be just another boring Tilke-designed track.
Hopefully, track will be ready for 2011 race.

The circuit in the Jaypee Greens Sports City bears the usual hallmarks of a Hermann Tilke-designed track. But from this first impression it seems to have some of the open, flowing corners that many modern tracks often lack.
It looks like a circuit in two halves, with several slow corners before and after the main start/finish straight. These are surely intended to increase opportunities for overtaking, something F1 car designers have been demanding recently.
But the other half of the track includes several longer-radius corners and some quick-looking bends. It’s impossible to get any sense of gradient from this flat map, however.
It is an unusually short track – slightly under 5km (3.1 miles). That would make it shorter than any track on this year’s calendar bar the Circuit de Catalunya, Hungaroring, Interlagos and Monte-Carlo.
The circuit is being built by JP Associates which is part of a large industrial conglomerate called the Jaypee Group. The circuit is being built alongside the Yamuna Expressway, a new road being built to connect India’s capital New Delhi with the country’s biggest tourist destination, the Taj Mahal, in the city of Agra.
The road to the Indian Grand Prix has not been completely smooth. The race was originally slated for the 2010 F1 calendar but Bernie Ecclestone confirmed it had been moved back to 2011.
In August this year the government’s sports minister Manohar Singh Gill refused to support race promoter JPSK’s request for money to hold the race, claiming F1 is not a sport. Ecclestone dismissed the minister’s comments saying: “That’s his view. The rest of the world thinks it is a sport.”

Bit hard to analyse the layout but let's hope it gives us some proper racing.

No idea if construction has started! Bernie was supposed to visit India to lay the foundation stone. But his visit was postponed.
I was hoping that it would be a Street Circut (On the lines of Monaco) Delhi would've been perfect for that. I can't make out much about the track by the picture provided but it sounds promising! Let's keep our fingers crossed! :)
Ahh too bad, I would have liked it to be a little bigger. How long is the straight?
:thumbs up Its the best thing to happen to India. F1 will hopefully be followed by A1, VW Polo cup and a host of other Asian and international events. Its got India on the world motorsports map and I cant wait to see the track for real!
How do you know if it has sweeping corners? The layout has no mention of width, camber etc. Of course, it's a bit too much to expect those details in the public domain so early on anyway. But there's no mention of whether it's a clockwise or an anticlockwise oriented track. That would be interesting.
WOW! Something to cheer at last. Hope we can have a proper look of the circuit by mid 2010. Shorter circuit means more laps. Not a bad idea after all.

It's quite difficult to see the track layout properly here. The main thing is that it should be completed on time and as per quality otherwise the Mr. Eccle$tone will take his business elsewhere.
Click on the image. It enlarges and you can see it more clearly. It looks okay, but you can't really judge a track by a squiggle on a paper. The main thing is that there appears to be some hope for an Indian GP.

The track seems to have a couple of IMHO unnecessary slow-speed chicances. Well, anyway lets hope the final configuration is good. Is this going to be a regular circuit or anti-clockwise?

Wow ! Great pics Raj, the grandstand design looks interesting with the wavy form, and the sharp edges of the buildings, is there any information on the construction progress, can we expect an Indian GP in 2011 ?

This is really exciting. Forget about the track giving good race or not & the relative shorter track length, atleast you dont need to spend a fortune to travel outside India to have a glimpse of F1, the mean machines & best drivers in the world. I think its a positive move !
Let Manmohan think in his own perspective, but I hope this plan materializes !
