A stellar lap from Oscar! He was consistent throughout the practice sessions and delivered when it counted.

A solid qualifying lap from both the Mercedes cars. Unfortunately, though, Russell and Antonelli have both been hit with one-place grid penalties.

Quote:
The stewards penalised the pair after they were sent into the fast lane of the pit lane before a session restart time – after Haas driver Esteban Ocon’s crash early in Q2 – was confirmed.

Other highlights would be -
  • Charles looked fast and put in a good lap at the end.
  • What a lap from Pierre! The conditions seem to suit Alpine. Even Jack drove well.
  • Sainz slotting ahead of Lewis might be an interesting start.
  • Norris couldn't put it all together on the last lap. Max was visibly struggling throughout all 3 sessions and barely made it to Q3. Another interesting battle at the start.
  • Yuki making it to Q3 would definitely boost his morale.

So, the starting grid would be

1. Pia
2. Lec
3. Rus
4. Gas
5. Ant
6. Nor
7. Ver
8. Sai
9. Ham
10. Tsu

Mid race updates:

What a day!! What a day for Ferrari. So refreshing to see them Scarletts scoring on a better strategy. That move from Leclerc on Norris was a sight. Phenomenal moves by Lewis as well.

I hope this ends well for Ferrari in Bahrain with LEC on the podium.

Great race!
Makes up for the boring and lifeless race last week where the only worthwhile highlight was racing on pit exit

Now that Piastri is out of the dreaded team orders preferring Norris, one can really see how better a driver he is compared to Norris.

Good Race

I was fearing it would be boring like the last race, but the tyre strategy, safety cars and over taking made it a interesting race to watch.

Again, can't understand Ferrari strategy. Starting on Medium and then pitting again after few laps for new medium after all the front runner have pitted.

Piastri looks like a World Champion material with each race. Much mature and clean drives than Norris.

Not sure what was the issue with the RB, Max was not in contention at all.

Regards

The idea would have been to switch to softs towards the end of the race. I guess they wouldn't have factored a safety car in Bahrain.

Not entirely sure if McLaren have shifted their weight behind Piastri now already, but it seems to be tilting in the Australian's side steadily. Norris is still in the lead and all that it takes is one good weekend for him to bounce back. A mistake as innocuous as Norris' putting his car outside of the start box is good enough to scupper a race. The fact that Norris got a five second penalty and still bounced back and almost took P2 is testament to both the phenomenally fast car as well as mental strength from Lando, to stay focused and not get overwhelmed by the pressure. Another strong showing and a takeover of the championship lead however would give young Piastri the much needed validation for his bid to be the unanimous choice for the number 1 driver's role at McLaren. The real benefits of the number 1 billing would be first preference to get upgrades, if for any reason they manage to only get parts for one car to be upgraded, better pit strategy etc, but I'm not sure if Zak and McLaren are ready to fully commit to Piastri just yet.
