An interesting qualifying session with George Russell taking the pole position. Mercs look fast this weekend. Sad to see Hamilton not nail his Q3 laps.

Ferraris were quick too with Sainz barely missing out on pole. But the real surprise was Pierre Gasly putting in a brilliant lap at the end qualifying 3rd on the grid.

McLarens looked fast but weren't quite there. Brilliant lap from Yuki! Splitting the McLarens by qualifying 7th.

Red Bull seemed to be struggling throughout the practice sessions with Max not being able to slow down the car and being slow on the straights. In the Qualifying, however, things fell into place to an extent. It was Max who made the difference as Checo got knocked out in Q1. Fun fact - Checo has 6 Q1 exits in 2024. Max has 5 Q1 exits since 2016!

Starting Grid:

Max starts ahead of Lando Norris. Will he seal the championship this weekend? Race @ 11:30 AM IST.

Re: 2024 Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix | Las Vegas Strip Circuit | 22-24 November 2024

A fairly uneventful race, with two exceptions:

- Max Verstappen secures the Championship, with two races to go

As Horner told him on the radio, their focus for today was to finish the race, and to finish ahead of Norris. He did put up a very standard, un-Max like fight when the two Ferraris were charging at him, but let them pass without drama when it was imminent

- Ferrari bungled up strategy yet again, although given just how fast the Mercs were, it most likely wouldn't have made much of a difference

Lewis, when telling his team about how quick the Ferraris were on the straight, probably had a bittersweet feeling, knowing, a) he was going to drive that car next year, b) Ferrari messed up strategy

Regardless, Ferrari are now within sniffing distance of McLaren on the Constructors' Championship. RBR are a distant 3rd, courtesy Perez, and unlikely to do better.

Quite an entertaining season, this. Brazil did a world of good to Verstappen, avoiding a Championship-deciding last-corner year! With so many high-profile driver changes coming up next year, most drivers would look to wrap up with their teams on a high.

Hope Ferrari wins the constructors championship. Vasseur seems like a breath of fresh air in the garage after a long time. Mclaren have also fought the long battle of 2 years with the pull-rod setup that's paying them dividends finally. No matter what the result is in Abu Dhabi, both teams should be happy to have found life again.

On the non-racing front, I hope Ben Sulayem gets an aneurysm. Ditto for the folks at Liberty Media and the FIA.

Max has matured a lot over the past few years and especially this year. He has become much more patient and maybe (a bit) less aggressive!

His car was the third fastest (behind McLaren and Ferrari) on the grid for half of the season, yet he is the champion. The drive in the rain - starting 17th and finishing 1st - showed his masterclass.

Norris is still not championship material yet. Does a lot of unforced mistakes and he is also bad at starts.

Red Bull need to get rid of Perez at the end of this season and get someone else. Next year is going to be a 3 way or 4 way fight (if Mercedes can improve over the winter) and Perez, frankly, is a liability now.
