As a Ferrari fan, I am very happy that I decided to stay up late last night. Hope they finish the season on a high. The strategy calls are right on point, which was seldom the case earlier.
- It was a dream start for Leclerc to take the lead right from the first lap. One could have never imagined the Scarlets finishing ahead with such a gap.
- Sainz had an issue during the first stint, which was later resolved. Him undercutting Max played out beautifully for the team. He looked strong all weekend but him getting stuck behind Max caused him the win.
- We all know how difficult it is to pass Max on track, and Norris really struggled to do that. With fresh rubber, Norris was able to close the gap but just couldn’t get around Max. What made matters worse was that RB was very quick in the first part of the lap, and following so close and dirty air took a toll on him.
- Norris’s poor first lap performance continues. To be fair, it is very hard to defend in COTA since the track is so wide. He was given a 5 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Make of it what you will. :-)
- Russell started P20 from the pit lane after his qualifying crash to finish P6! Brilliant recovery drive, but he had gotten a 5-second penalty, which didn’t make any difference to him.
- Perez had an uneventful race being stuck behind back markers for a long time.
- Lawson finishes P9 and in points after starting P19. He came out ahead of his teammate Yuki after the pitstop, and Yuki was flabbergasted at the very least by it.
- Colapinto finishes P10, and what a great drive by him. Had some tough battles on track, and he has been the perfect replacement for Sargeant, who never delivered.
- Gasly had qualified so well and drove perfectly in the first stint; his first pitstop was a slow one, and that eventually ruined his race. Poor performance by the team. Alpine really needs to get their things sorted out.
- Hamilton beached his car in the same corner where his teammate had just crashed a day earlier. He had made 5 places on the first lap, but had to retire early for the day.
Looking forward to the next two back-to-back races.
