A Ferrari 1-2 at the 2024 Austin (USA) Grand Prix

It was a dream race weekend for Ferrari at the US Grand Prix. The sprint race on Saturday Ferrari got a 2 and 4(almost 3rd, Leclerc would have overtaken Norris given 1 more lap). Then the execution on Sunday was just brilliant. A Ferrari 1-2 in US after 16 years on pure pace. Just Wow!!! It was worth waking up in the middle of the night to watch the race as a Ferrari fan.

With 5 races to go the constructors championship is wide open. I can't remember in the recent past when we had a three horse battle in Formula 1 with 5 races to go. Really excited for the last 5 races and the best part this race was the start of a triple header.

I can definitely say that this is one of best F1 seasons in my watching of F1 for last 25 years. That is just because there are 4 teams which are very close to each other and you can't guess who will come out on top in each race. All of this is helping in amazing wheel to wheel racing.

Race Standings

Driver Standings

Norris has a 57 point gap to make up in the last 5 races

Constructors Standings
There are 48 points separating the top 3. It is a wide open battle in constructor championship

As a Ferrari fan, I am very happy that I decided to stay up late last night. Hope they finish the season on a high. The strategy calls are right on point, which was seldom the case earlier.

- It was a dream start for Leclerc to take the lead right from the first lap. One could have never imagined the Scarlets finishing ahead with such a gap.

- Sainz had an issue during the first stint, which was later resolved. Him undercutting Max played out beautifully for the team. He looked strong all weekend but him getting stuck behind Max caused him the win.

- We all know how difficult it is to pass Max on track, and Norris really struggled to do that. With fresh rubber, Norris was able to close the gap but just couldn’t get around Max. What made matters worse was that RB was very quick in the first part of the lap, and following so close and dirty air took a toll on him.

- Norris’s poor first lap performance continues. To be fair, it is very hard to defend in COTA since the track is so wide. He was given a 5 second penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.

Make of it what you will. :-)

- Russell started P20 from the pit lane after his qualifying crash to finish P6! Brilliant recovery drive, but he had gotten a 5-second penalty, which didn’t make any difference to him.

- Perez had an uneventful race being stuck behind back markers for a long time.

- Lawson finishes P9 and in points after starting P19. He came out ahead of his teammate Yuki after the pitstop, and Yuki was flabbergasted at the very least by it.

- Colapinto finishes P10, and what a great drive by him. Had some tough battles on track, and he has been the perfect replacement for Sargeant, who never delivered.

- Gasly had qualified so well and drove perfectly in the first stint; his first pitstop was a slow one, and that eventually ruined his race. Poor performance by the team. Alpine really needs to get their things sorted out.

- Hamilton beached his car in the same corner where his teammate had just crashed a day earlier. He had made 5 places on the first lap, but had to retire early for the day.

Looking forward to the next two back-to-back races.

Not sure when FIA is going to clamp down completely on this late braking and making your opponent run wide of track when being over taken. This has become a joke now and FIA is only selectively applying the rules.

If Norris and Russel deserved penalty, then so did Max for pushing Norris out of track.

Max is super hard to over take and talented, but this tactics of him has to be stopped or FIA needs to be consistent in applying penalty. Doesn't matter if its Lap 1 or Lap 53.

Superb drive by the Ferrari drivers and for a change all the call were spot on. A rare mistake by Hamilton. Lawson and Colapinto looks very mature. Colapinto looks like WC material in the right car.

Couldn't agree with you more. Max (& now looking at him others too) has made it a habit to do a dive bomb & most often than not during high pressure racing go off track completely, thus forcing the driver on the outside who otherwise had a good chance of overtaking to go even wider! Reminds me (frustratingly) of the 2021 season.

That was an amazing result for Ferrari which means that they are still in contention to win the WCC and Leclerc still mathematically in the race to win the WDC.

Re: A Ferrari 1-2 at the 2024 Austin (USA) Grand Prix

The Ferrari pitwall is finally abuzz again with the right noises. Fred Vasseur has really turned the team around from the clownshow that was being run by the Italian bosses. Could this be a return to the Ross Brawn/ Jean Todt days? It may be too early to say, but things are definitely looking up for the scarlet marque. The solution to making the italians successful is ironically, removing the Italians from the team xD. La dolce vita certainly cannot be the driving philosophy of a team in a sport as cut-throat as Formula 1. Here's to a brighter future!
If only Sainz had stayed on for another season or two.
