Renault to exit Formula 1 after 2025; Alpine could use Mercedes engines French automaker, Renault, has announced it will be leaving Formula One at the end of the 2025 season. The team has decided to abandon its engine development, ahead of the new set of regulations set to come into place in 2026.
The Renault F1 team, racing under the carmaker's performance sub-brand 'Alpine', will continue to remain on the grid. However, the team will use Mercedes-Benz engines - yet to be officially confirmed.
Renault is currently one of just three 'works' teams in the sport, with the others being Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari.
The carmaker confirmed that despite leaving F1, there will be no job losses at the racing team factory. Post the 2025 F1 season, the factory will be repurposed towards the development of road cars for both Renault & Alpine brands.
The Alpine F1 team has been struggling this season, currently positioned ninth in the constructor's championship. However, the French carmaker has had a lot of success in Formula One in the past - with 12 constructor's championships and 10 driver's championships.
For the 2025 season, the Alpine team will have Pierre Gasly, alongside Jack Doohan who will make his F1 debut. Esteban Ocon who currently races for the team, will be moving to Haas for the upcoming season.
