Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

Very curious to see how the development dynamic between Gresini and the factory Ducati team will shape up should Marc put up a title fight and a non-Ducati bike is also in the mix.

Yamaha have a lot to lose in the form of Fabio. And with a lot of riders out of contract at the end of the year, a lot is at stake for the Japanese manufacturer. The most excited I have been for a MotoGP season in a very long time. Cannot wait!

Must say that this VR46 Racing livery is the most lively, colorful and striking one of the 4 teams that have revealed till date. The fluorescent yellow of Rossi makes it's impact.

The last 2 years championships have already confirmed their often stated approach - to allow their own riders to freely compete against each other, without any team orders.

Even with the championship on the line in both the years, Pecco almost lost it all while competing for the race win with Diggia in Qatar 2023 (when Martin was the main championship contender) and on multiple occasions against Bastianini in 2022 (when Quartararo on the Yamaha was the main championship contender).

Interesting development :

At Friday evening’s Trackhouse team launch in Los Angelis, it was confirmed that Miguel Oliveira will be promoted to 2024 factory-spec Aprilia machinery in MotoGP this season.

Oliveira and team-mate Raul Fernandez raced year-old RS-GPs under the CryptoDATA RNF banner last season, the first year of Aprilia’s satellite project.

The headline news is that five-time KTM race winner Oliveira will get his wish and join Aleix Espargaro and Maverick Vinales in running 2024 factory-spec RS-GPs.

“The full factory spec will be at the beginning for Miguel and then quite soon also for Raul [Fernandez],” Aprilia Racing CEO Massimo Rivola said at the launch.

Indeed, this was announced a couple of weeks ago, here’s the update -

Red Bull GASGAS Tech3

GASGAS Tech3 is now christened Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 with a refreshing livery that will help in distinguishing from factory Ducatis a tad bit better.

2022 Moto2 Champion Vs 2023 Moto2 Champion fight at Tech3, can't wait for the season to begin!

MotoGP team names are far better in 2024 than the weird names cropping up in F1!

News Feed

1) Argentina GP cancelled

Due to the current circumstances in Argentina, the Promoter of the event has communicated that it is currently unable to guarantee the services required for the Grand Prix that was scheduled for 5th - 7th April to MotoGP standards.

This event will not be replaced on the 2024 calendar. MotoGP hopes to return to race at Termas de Rio Hondo in 2025.

Revised calendar -

2) Franco Morbidelli has spent the night in Faro Hospital for "precautionary and safety" reasons.

Morbidelli was testing alongside his Ducati counterparts and VR46 Academy stablemates – including Valentino Rossi – at the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve, where the WorldSBK paddock were participating in an official pre-season test.

Lapping on a Ducati Panigale V4S, he crashed at Turn 9, which subsequently brought out the red flags. Prima Pramac Racing later confirmed via social media that Morbidelli would spend the night in hospital.

While the tests have thankfully been “encouraging”, he now faces a race against time to be fit for the crucial Sepang Test on the 6th of February.

Monster Energy Yamaha

The Yamaha factory team returns in 2024 with new hope and ambition to get its past woes sorted with their balanced rider lineup in Fabio and Rins. Nothing much has changed on the livery except for an additional sponsorship that is quite familiar to us back home.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

Sepang Test - Day 1 Results

After a three-day Shakedown - featuring test riders, Honda and Yamaha race riders, plus KTM rookie Pedro Acosta - official MotoGP testing for the full 2024 MotoGP field began at Sepang.

The 2024 MotoGP Season-screenshot-20240206-12.02.16.png

- Marini (Honda), Acosta (KTM), Martin (Ducati) and Marc Marquez (Ducati) were tied at the top on 336.4km/h although Marini later admitted he had been in a slipstream.

- Interesting to see Quartararo's Yamaha just a fraction slower at 335.4km/h, matched by the KTMs of Brad Binder and Jack Miller. Lin Jarvis thinks the Yamaha now has enough power, it's the usability and acceleration that the team needs to work on.

- Franco Morbidelli was absent following his recent accident at Portimao and replaced by Ducati test rider Michele Pirro.

Sepang Test - Day 2 Results

The 2024 MotoGP Season-screenshot-20240207-11.44.29.png

- The official lap record at the Sepang racetrack set by Bagnaia last year was shattered, first by Jorge Martin (1m 57.273s) and then by Enea Bastianini (1m 57.134s).

- Marc Marquez did the most number of laps (72) and was classified as the slowest Desmosedici in 14th place!

- Quartararo set the highest top speed of the day at 338.5km/h.

- Raul Fernandez had a big highside in the morning session and was ruled out for the rest of Day2 and Day3. He was replaced by Trackhouse test rider Lorenzo Salvadori.

Today the GP24 Ducati bikes ran with their revised fairings / aerodynamics developed for this year and their further improvement in pace is reflected. They appear to be the bikes to beat once again.

Good to see Yamaha on top of the maximum speed charts for a change - lack of top speed was their major problem last year.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

They have dipped in the 1:56s now! Pecco leading, ahead of Martin and Alex's Gresini also in the same pincode! Amazing progress made by all the teams!
