Spanish GP - Full Qualifying Results

The 2024 MotoGP Season-screenshot-20240525-11.50.36.png

- Aleix Espargaro takes historic pole at Catalunya after setting a blistering lap time of 1:38:190! After topping the Practice session yesterday, he mentioned if he could finding anything more from his RS-GP in the qualifying and here he is, starting first from the grid in his home GP.

- World champion Pecco Bagnaia finds himself in second place followed by KTM's Brad Binder who has put his Le Mans demons away.

- Pedro Acosta takes an impressive fourth but it's Fabio Di Giannantonio who's the star as he out qualified everyone in Q1 and take fifth in Q2, making him the fastest GP23.

- Both the Prima Pramac's crashed on their second outing in Q2 with Martin in 6th and Morbidelli in 10th.

- Raul Fernandez set the second fastest time in Q1 to enter Q2 and qualifies 7th on the 2023 race winning Aprilia.

- Alex Rins put on a strong show to qualify 8th and outshine his team mate Quartararo, who finds himself in 17th place.

- Marc Marquez's qualifying woes continues from Le Mans as he finds himself in 14th, out qualified by his brother Alex in 13th.

Raul Fernandez moves from seventh to third after his fastest qualifying lap, initially cancelled due to yellow flags, is reinstated after the session. The knock-on means Brad Binder drops to the head of row two, in fourth, and title leader Jorge Martin is now demoted to row three, in seventh.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

Spanish GP - Sprint

The 2024 MotoGP Season-racewinners.jpeg

The 2024 MotoGP Season-sprint.png

- Home hero, Aleix Espargaro wins the Sprint of Catalunya! Starting from pole, he didn't get a good start down the line, but he managed a faultless sprint in tricky conditions proving that in circuits like this, experience matters more than outright speed.

- Marc Marquez salvages his worst qualifying of 2024 with a second place finish. He did make up quite a few places during the beginning of the race and despite losing the left aero on his fairing, set up blistering pace towards the end to overtake Pedro Acosta and take the second step of the podium.

- Pedro Acosta completes the podium with the bronze medal, complementing his 20th birthday celebrations. He did lead the race for a brief moment but lost out towards the end as he ate up his soft rear tire.

- Despite lacking the pace being set at the front, Championship leader Jorge Martin comes home in fourth.

- The highlight of the Sprint though, was when three different race leaders at different point in time, crashed out of the race in a similar manner: losing the front end -
Raul Fernandez threw away a potential first Sprint win, causing heartbreak for him and the Trackhouse garage.
Brad Binder then took over the lead from him but crashed out in lap 7.
In the final lap, WC Pecco Bagnaia was cruising comfortably for his first Sprint victory after 10 months before he too crashed out of the race.
Talk about this being a tricky track to navigate!

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

Spanish GP - Race

The 2024 MotoGP Season-img_3364.jpeg

The 2024 MotoGP Season-race.png

- Francesco Bagnaia makes amends for his Sprint catastrophe by beating title leader Jorge Martin for victory in the 2024 Catalan MotoGP. Pecco passed Martin on the very same turn he crashed out of yesterday in the Sprint.

- Jorge Martin finishes second after he progressed from seventh to third on the opening lap and then made out-brake passes on Acosta and Bagnaia to take the lead. But Bagnaia passed him with 6 laps to go and then finished the race in 2nd, to take crucial 20 points.

- Two weekends in a row now, Marc Marquez finds himself in the podium after starting from the fifth row of the grid. He was one of the four riders, having chosen the soft rear tire - a real gamble in hot conditions and low grip levels on the track. He broke many hearts when he passed Aleix with a few laps to go, to deny him of fairytale farewell in front of his home crowd.

- Fabio Di Giannantonio and Alex Marquez finish a respectable 5th and 7th respectively, out performing their GP24 compatriots Enea Bastianini and Franco Morbidelli.

- Any hopes Enea had of convincing the Ducati management to retain him on the factory Ducati for 2025 have gone up in smoke this week as he was given a double long lap penalty after failing to serve a single long lap for shortcutting Turn 2. But he missed that penalty as well and was finally given a 'ride-through', added to his finishing time.

- After the heartbreak yesterday, Raul Fernandez rode a more mature race to finish in sixth with his team mate Miguel Oliveira finishing 10th, making it a good sunday for the Trackhouse Racing team.

- Pedro Acosta riding on the soft rear as well, made a break through start but slid out of second into the gravel. He rejoined the race and finished 13th, gaining valuable points and more importantly lessons learnt.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

The ads in the Jio cinema is really frustrating these days. Yesterday's races start time they were playing the ads and really missed the launch actions.
Is there any way we can complain and stop this? No other apps also stream GP now in India.
It is really catching on my nerve nowadays. Going forward i think it will get worse.

In the past the ad's during formation lap used to get over just before the start. Yesterday, totally unacceptable case. The live feed came back after race start and after first corner. I have jio premium and still no escape from these ads. Only solution seems MotoGP video pass, but its too expensive at approx 140 EUR. F1 TV kind of price would have been sane option.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

GP7: 31 May - 2 June

Gran Premio d’Italia Brembo

Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello

Located 30km north-east of Florence in the beautiful countryside of Tuscany, Mugello is a modern circuit with excellent facilities. Bought by Ferrari back in 1988, the 5.245km track has been renovated to a high standard and has a growing reputation as one of the world’s most up-to-date, scenic and safest race circuits.
A blend of slow and fast turns with sweeping curves, long straights and off-camber corners make Mugello one of the most challenging circuits for the riders and engineers. Having hosted its first MotoGP event back in 1976 the venue became a permanent fixture in 1991 after extensive refurbishment. Set within a beautiful tree lined Tuscan valley, Mugello also offers ample viewing areas for a particularly boisterous and partisan Italian crowd.

Re: The 2024 MotoGP Season

Mugello is easily the best motorcycle racing circuit, perhaps alongside Philip Island (but the weather is nasty there). It is the Monza of motorcycle racing (eat its dust Assen), but with much more racing spectacle.

Next tier of amazing circuits include Le Mans Bugatti, Portimao and Jerez. I wish Interlagos could be homologated for MotoGP, but that's highly unlikely.

The braking at T1 must be a hair raising affair (similar to Bugatti Le Mans and Portimao) as riders can't slow down that much for the sweeping right hander, and getting dive bombed like Alex Marquez did last year. And with the likes of Marc and Pedro hunting down everyone, nobody can take a breather anywhere on the track!

New timeline on Ducati decision

The 2024 MotoGP Season-gigg.jpg

It seems like Ducati will not confirm their 2025 MotoGP rider line-up at Mugello this weekend. A Ducati spokesperson has mentioned "We have never said that we are going to announce it at Mugello. What we have always said is that, from Mugello onwards, we will begin to outline what the decision is."

This means that Jorge Martin, Enea Bastianini and Marc Marquez will need to wait longer to decide on their future, which throws a spanner into other teams' plans as well. It's now a matter of how much longer rider and team can wait for.

Personally, I feel it should've been an easy decision to go with Jorge Martin, to be fair, as he's done everything he possibly can this season to sway the decision in his favour. While no one can resist the Marquez factor and this could be one of the prime factors delaying the decision, I feel it is also because none of the current Ducati satellite teams have signed on the dotted lines for the contract extension, which means that negotiations could still be underway as we speak.

Nope, won't happen as the latest news is that MotoGP has been shifted from October to March 2025.

Bharat MotoGP to be Held in March 2025

A very good decision, it was so hot in September last year and riders were struggling along with the spectators. March would be a much better time to enjoy the race.

Funny they call it 'postponement' rather than complete 'rescheduling' as it will be in the next season! Perhaps that was the only option given the weather and the fact that there was no slot left till the end of the season?

Still, losing our only race weekend is a big loss for motorsport fans in India, was really looking forward to see Marc on the Gresini

So this means MotoGP Bharat will surely kick start the 2025 season with fresh bikes and rider-team swaps, should be amazing given the decent weather in early March
