Formula 1 : 2024 Season

Formula 1 has announced the calendar for the 2024 FIA Formula One World Championship, approved by the World Motor Sport Council.

The calendar features 24 races and begins in Bahrain on March 2 and finishes in Abu Dhabi on December 8.

Formula 1 has made clear its intention to move towards greater calendar regionalisation, reducing logistical burdens and making the season more sustainable.

Key Changes
  • The season begins with two Saturday races. For the first time since 1985, a full World Championship Grand Prix will take place on a day other than Sunday this year when the lights go out for the much-anticipated inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix at 10pm local time on Saturday 18 November 2023. In 2024, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia will join Las Vegas in making it three Saturday races on the calendar.

  • China is set to make its first appearance on the F1 calendar since 2019.

  • The Japanese Grand Prix is the biggest mover, switching from a September date to April. Freight can now move from Australia to Japan and then onto China to improve the efficiencies of travelling.

  • The Azerbaijan Grand Prix moves from an April slot to September.

  • Qatar shifts from October to the first weekend of December.

  • An additional three-week pause between Singapore and Austin apart from the traditional three-week summer break in August.

Re: Formula 1 : 2024 Season

From a sustainability standpoint this is a good step forward!
It would have been even better if we had Canada and Miami clubbed together. This way, we could have avoided entire F1 convoy flying across Atlantic back and forth in a month's time!

Re: Formula 1 : 2024 Season

2024 Formula One Australian Grand Prix race day tickets sold out.

Race-day tickets for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix sold out within two hours of going on sale, with local Formula One fans hoping to see two Australians on the grid at their home race for the first time in more than a decade.

Quote:
more than 100,000 people had pre-registered for early access to tickets for the 2024 Australian Grand Prix, a record for any Ticketmaster-managed sporting event in the country.

The two most recent editions of the Australian Grand Prix set four-day crowd records for the race since it moved to Melbourne in 1996 – with an estimated attendance of 419,114 in 2022 and 444,631 in 2023.
The all-time Australian Grand Prix attendance record is still held by the 1995 race – the last to be held in Adelaide – which saw an estimated 520,000 fans turn up to the four-day event.

Re: Formula 1 : 2024 Season

Hamilton and Russell renew with Mercedes until 2025.

Quote:
Hamilton ended his contract with the Silver Arrows at the end of 2023 and although both parties had shown interest in renewing, the announcement has taken longer to arrive than expected. The renewal of the Briton has been on the table throughout the season, because with 38 years, it may be his last contract as a Formula 1 driver.

I am betting alpha tauri confirms yuki and danny for 24, and places Lawson in Williams for 2 years replacing Logan.

Re: Formula 1 : 2024 Season

The biggest question is whether we get to see F1 on TV or OTT. I am not paying for the F1 subscription, and I am tired of watching the free stream with Belgian commentary.

Nyck de Vries will be returning to Formula E with Mahindra

Nyck de Vries will be returning to Formula E after he penned a multi-year deal to race for Mahindra from next season in the all-electric series.

The Dutchman is the first ever FIA-recognised World Champion in the category, having won the title in the 2020-21 season before moving into Formula 1 with AlphaTauri.

He was dropped by the Red Bull junior team after only 10 races, but now has his motorsport future secured in familiar surroundings.

Thoughts in no order:

1. Another bet. Danny Ric will under perform with Alpha Tauri next season relative to Yuki and Lawson will be called forward again.

2. May not happen if Red Bull loan Lawson for 1 or 2 seasons to Williams with a sizeable financial package.

3. I do see Carlos moving to Audi as their lead driver by 2026. He will secure a 2 year contract with Ferrari until then.

4. There's chatter that Toyota might return to F1 as an engine supplier to...wait for it Mclaren! They have been blown away by Honda's success. F1's media uptake has been phenomenal. Very difficult for big manufacturers not to put a finger in.

5. Andretti has been the only team whose bid has been approved for further study by the FIA. Andretti is backed by GM.

6. Ford is slated to enter F1 again replacing Honda at Red Bull.

7. Will all this be enough to coax BMW to re enter F1 and do the dream partnership with Williams again? Will that resurrect William's fortunes now that Albon and the new team principal from Team Toto are finally getting that boat rowed?

8. Alpha Tauri is effectively going to be sold to Hugo Boss, the team will be renamed, and will cease to be an outright B team, but might function much like how Haas functions vis a vis Ferrari at the moment.

Re: Formula 1 : 2024 Season

Won't be surprised if Perez is axed by the end of the year. His performance after the first 4 races is poor. If that happens, who will fill his seat?

The yearly membership costs 2400 rupees which is equivalent to one party night out or 100 rupees per race, I can happily sacrifice a party night out to watch such quality content.
