Sebastian Vettel will drive his old Championship-winning Red Bull F1 car at the Nurburgring

Sebastian Vettel, the 4-time Formula1 world champion, will soon be back in the driving seat of a Red Bull F1 car, following his retirement from the sport last year.

The Red Bull F1 team announced that Vettel will be driving his old 2011 championship-winning RB7 around the Nurburgring Nordschleife on September 9, this year. He will be joined by his old teammate and the team's current reserve driver, Daniel Ricciardo for the Red Bull Formula Nurburgring event.

The RB7 F1 car, which will be driven by both drivers, has been retrofitted to run on synthetic e-fuel; promoting Vettel's long-standing commitment to bring environmental sustainability in motorsports.

Sebastian Vettel stated, "It's vital to me to demonstrate that racing cars can perform equally well and rapidly on synthetic, such as CO2-neutral fuel. This is no longer a future concept; it's happening right now."

The Red Bull Nurburgring event also marks the first time in 10 years that a Formula1 racecar has been driven on the "green hell". The last time it happened was in 2013 when Michael Schumacher drove a Mercedes F1 car as a demo run, post that year's Nurburgring 24-hour race.

Ahead of the event, Red Bull expects to draw a crowd of over 30,000 to witness the RB7 go around the Ring.

Re: Sebastian Vettel will drive his old Championship-winning Red Bull F1 car at the Nurburgring

Apparently, Helmut Marko is not allowing Verstappen to participate as he thinks VER might crash the car by pushing too hard

I think Ricciardo will drive the RB8 in the same run. Will be fascinating what they can achieve. Will be fascinating to see how hard they will push.

Let's see what time can be set as compared to Porsche's 919 Evo's monster lap of 5m19sec.

BMW Sauber's demo run in 2007 with Heidfeld's F1 06 was quite slow as they had used hard tyres, increased height and overall slowed the car down (for safety reasons). Though BMW had calculated a 5:15 to be possible.
