Infact it is no point of having F1 in US. This year when the US GP was on, it was hard to tell that F1 has even touched this country. Its almost like hosting cricket world cup here. In contrast it gets pretty big in every other country. Fast cars that can corner and rev to high rpms are not very popular here.
It was kinda expected. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is expected to host MotoGP next year.
the Canadian GP will still take place, right?
Canada I think has a multiyear contract with Bernie. USGP was up for renewal this year and did not go through.
yes canda will be there, till 2012 i think.I cannot really say that Indy is a great circuit,it is good but i'll be happy is they can get a better circuit in the US.
i had attended the Indy F1 this year....& had subcribed to the site..here's a email i got today which kinda summarises the news
July 12, 2007
Dear USGP Fan:
I want to thank you for your patience and understanding as the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has worked toward securing a Formula One event in 2008 and beyond.
After my recent meetings with Formula One Ltd. CEO Bernie Ecclestone, we have mutually agreed to not schedule Formula One racing at Indianapolis in 2008.
It has been a pleasure having the United States Grand Prix at Indianapolis, and I hope that as we approach our Centennial Era at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, an opportunity might present itself that would allow its return.
I would like to take this time to thank you for your support of Formula One and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway over the past eight years.
Although the Indianapolis Motor Speedway will not be hosting a Formula One race in 2008, we are always looking to the future. With that in mind, we will have a historic motorsports announcement at 3:30 p.m. ET Monday, July 16. I want to strongly encourage you to log on to
Indianapolis Motor Speedway® to view this special event.
On behalf of the Hulman-George family and the staff at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, thank you again for your patience and understanding, and I hope that you consider attending one of our events in 2008.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to give us a call at (800) 822–INDY or (317) 492–6700 if we can be of further assistance.
Sincerely,
Tony George
Chief Executive Officer
Indianapolis Motor Speedway
what? i am getting confused does this meen no F1 for 2008
what about singapore 2008 is this one and the same thing!
i am new to f1 :p
For the initiated, this is sad news
Was a great track and always made for an interesting race. I dont think Bernie can afford NOT to have a race in the USA. Both (F1 and USA) need each other.
I think the USA GP will be back sooner rather than later.
Indy was one track that didn't give two hoots whether F1 races there or not. So the usual Bernie games & threats didn't work. Bernie is a guy who likes to have tracks running after him and not the other way around, so his pride couldn't take Indy's "whatever" attitude any longer.
However, I do think that the US GP will move to another track within the States. Maybe a street circuit on the West Coast? But the US is one market Bernie is keen on conquering before he hangs up his coat to retire.
The possibility of the 2008 US GP is still there but looks bleak at the moment. It is suggested though, that in 2009 or later F1 could return to the Indy circuit.
Thats sad , indy always had its charm with all its walls and quick straights , welcome SPA (fingers crossed)

After what the track did to the fat Michelin tyres on F1 cars, can you imagine what it will be like on a bike, considering the fact that they've got a contact patch the size of a credit card. Hehe

They should give Infineon a try. You bloody can't see where you're going. It's gonna make one heck of a race weekend.

How about Laguna Seca?I think Cart and MotoGP races are held there dont know its viability for F1 though.
