2022 Hungarian Grand Prix | Formula 1 Aramco Magyar Nagydíj | 29 - 31 July

F1 is back to Hungary, the race before the long mid-season break starts.

The start would be interesting with RUS on his first pole followed by the two Ferraris and the Red Bulls 10th and 11th.

Budapest

When was the track built?
Work began on the Hungaroring in 1985, and the track was race-ready just nine months later. The Hungarian government had originally considered reviving the old Nepliget park circuit in Budapest in a bid to host Formula 1 in the country, but in the end decided to create a purpose-built facility instead.

When was its first Grand Prix?
The year was 1986. Nelson Piquet won the first F1 race around the Hungaroring, famously slithering his Williams around the outside of Ayrton Senna’s Lotus to take the lead.

What’s the circuit like?
The lack of straights at the Hungaroring often sees it compared to a karting circuit – and it’s true, the resemblance is uncanny. With several series of corners to string together, teams opt for Monaco levels of downforce, with a well-sorted chassis tending to be rewarded over horsepower given the short straights on offer. It’s a challenge many of the drivers relish, however, with finding a good rhythm key to setting fast lap times.

Why go?
Hungary in July is usually hot hot hot. The good news if you’re at the track, though, is that there’s a water park close by – the Mogyorodi Aquarena vizi szorakoztatopark – which should be a good place to cool off. Away from aqueous activities, the circuit is only 20km from Budapest, putting you close to one of Europe’s most fascinating, storied and lively city centres.

Where is the best place to watch?
The track is built in a natural bowl, a bit like the UK's Brands Hatch. That means that any of the grandstands located on or around the main straight should provide a view of other parts of the track too, giving you more F1 bang for your, er, forint.

It's now absolutely certain that RBR acts as recruiting agent for Ferrari's strategy team

SUPERMAX for a reason What a brilliant drive by Max and a strategy master class by Hannah Schmitz. My heart sank when Max spun. The way Max recovered and continued to win on the same set of tyres is just brilliant. This is what wins championships. Ferrari, again a clown show. Why on earth would they pit Lec for hards when Alpine were clearly struggling with hards. Ridiculous strategy. On top of this, he had fresher mediums than Sainz. Pitting Lec cost him the race. I pity Lec. He’s a championship deserving driver. Ferrari had the better car during the first half of the season and they’re closer to Mercedes than RedBull. Sigh.

Coming to the race, it was great to see 5 cars fight for P1. It was hard to guess who would win the race. Thankfully in the end, it was a VSC and not a safety car

Cheers!

What the h@#l is wrong with Ferrari. Just when you thought they have turned a corner (strategy wise) they plumb new depths. The decision to pit Leclerc so early on his second mediums and put on Hards was a moment of pure 'genius' unparalleled in F1 strategy.

Well done Mercedes and Redbull.
Sorry Leclerc, your team is your worst enemy. Nothing anyone else can do about it. Truly sorry. You deserve better.

Jokers.
The strategist must be a bunch of "*insert HAAS Boss words here" .

Hard tyres, when Alpine & HAAS could be seen slearly struggling and off the pace.

All credits to Max, what a drive!
Start at 10, overtakes a lot, spins, recovers, Finish #1

I really think Red Bull have an “inside man” at Ferrari How on earth can such a team keep making blunders like they are doing is beyond me. I think when Hamilton retires LeClerc is Mercedes bound for sure.

Cheers

I heard that the strategy options plan A/B/C/D are put at the entrance of the Ferrari hospitality center, where rival teams can come up and change strategies with a marker and then the Ferrari pit wall religiously follows through with the new strategy written by the rival team.

I still remember the day when Ferrari turned it around at the hungaroring with Schumacher, and went ballistic with a fast paced race to get the victory. Seeing the strategy unfold today, tells me they have gone complete nuts. They pitted first before Russel did on Softs!!! and then whoever took the call for going on Hards should be shot at.
Did they not see the other cars on HARD struggling, are they blind?

How can they even call themselves strategists!!! the pain is unbearable.

Before start of race Horner and Max conversation will be like:
Max: So what's our strategy to win this race?
Horner: Ferrari will do strategy for you. All you need to do is normal drive.

Staying in Ferrari is a waste of talent. What a useless bunch of strategists!

Jeremy Clarkson sumd it up well in this tweet:

And after this humiliating result, Binotto goes to say that we didn’t have the car today.
I mean the audacity with which he comes with excuses is inexcusable !
Both Ferrari drivers could really benefit for this break given the mental agony they’ve faced.

Clearly, Ferrari strategists have lied on their resumes, these guys don’t know anything about strategy or about a car and neither about a race! Why on earth would you put hard tyres on Leclerc, even Hamilton and Verstappen were amused by this in the cool room.

Great drive by Max and both the Mercedes drivers, I bet with a little more pace Hamilton would’ve given us last season vibes.

What an absolutely clinical race from Max: both in terms of driving and strategy. Conversely, what a clinical how-to-make-a-mess-101 from Ferrari. Ridiculous how they mess up strategy so consistently!

What happened with Perez though; I was hoping he'd be P3/P4.

Let's see what the mid-season break brings about.

I thought Redbull would send Inaki Rueda for constructors trophy on podium. Agree Charles is immensely fast and i am a big fan of his. But he dosent seem to have the leadership qualities or technical detail understanding of Alonso or Vettel. I would be really surprised if he will ever win a WDC title in a Ferrari. Happy to be proven wrong though. Carlos although 2-3 tents slower than Charles, looks like more a team leader type driver.

They had no other option as they had used up the tires in free practices, that is what Toto says, I'm still surprised no body has lost job at Ferrari they have become very complacent.
At Ferrari its always the drivers fault irrespective of who has screwed it, with this attitude they will not be able to win any championship in the foreseeable future.
Mercedes and RB's they listen to lead driver and devise their strategy around it at Ferrari you pick the most unworkable strategy and ask the driver who is leading to follow that strategy and when it fails use the better strategy for the second driver. Any wins they have won so far has got nothing to do with strategy its purely the car and the driver nothing else
