Lewis Hamilton's GP winning F1 car auctioned for a near-record price of £4.8 million

7-time Formula1 world champion, Sir Lewis Hamilton's old McLaren F1 car has been auctioned for a near record-breaking price.

The McLaren MP4-25A, with which Lewis Hamilton won the 2010 Turkish Grand Prix, was sold at the RM Sotheby's auction for £4.83 million. This makes it the second most expensive F1 car at an auction to date, after Michael Schumacher's 2001 Ferrari F2001, which was auctioned for £ 5.5 million at a previous RM Sotheby's event, back in 2017.

The auction house stated that this is the first time that an F1 car piloted by Lewis Hamilton has been auctioned. It is also said to have met RM's expected price, which was between £ 5 and £ 7 million. The high selling price also indicates the presence of a market for Lewis Hamilton's F1 cars.

RM Sotheby's held a live auction during the 2021 British Grand Prix, in front of approximately 1,40,000 race fans. The auctioned McLaren MP4-25A F1 comes with the Chassis No. 01 and is powered by Mercedes-Benz's 2.4-litre, V8 engine.

Ahead of the auctions, the F1 car was fully race-prepared by McLaren Racing's Heritage team. It even ran a few demonstration laps around the Silverstone circuit, supported by McLaren and Mercedes technicians.

What do you mean by "his first F1 GP win" in Turkey 2010? His first race win was in Canada 2007. By 2008 he was already a WDC

If im not wrong, its his first GP winning car that went up for auction.

The Mclaren MP4-25 A was not the car which gave Hamilton his first GP win in f1, it was the MP4-23. The MP4-25 A which went on auction was used to win the 2010 Turkey gp and is significant for being a competitive car throughout the season helping Mclaren to claim the second spot in the constructors championship.
