Formula 1: 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - Imola (16-18 April 2021)

Following the nail-biting start to the F1 season of 2021 in Bahrain, it will now move to another track which made a return after a 14-year hiatus, Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari or better known as Imola. Imola still holds a very important place in F1 history, especially after the 1994 San Marino GP which was induced with the death of Ralph Ratzenberger & Ayrton Senna. Last year, Imola didn't disappoint and I hope it doesn't this year too!

Do Note: Timings have changed for this week due to the funeral of Prince Philip.

Broadcast can be watched on Hotstar & Star Sports 2.

Imola has always been a favourite with me. It is good to see F1 returning to this track. Last race showed that Verstappen is a serious contender. In the end he lost out narrowly due to having gone off the track.

This is gonna be a procession just like last year. Very little on track action possible due to a narrow track. Getting pole is Incredibly important to win.

FP1 topped by the Mercs. Followed by Verstappen who did not look near enough on point as i Bahrain. Perez seemed to have tangled with Ocon and was out towards the closing stages. Bad news for Red Bull.

Vettel will heave a sigh of relief at having a faultless run. Still out performed by his team mate.

Alfa Tauri looks really strong this season with Gasly fifth after spending quite a bit of time in 3rd during the session.

Drive on,
Shibu

Re: Formula 1: 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - Imola (16-18 April 2021)

- Perez outqualifies Max (probably wouldn’t have if Max didn’t make that mistake), but he still seems much better in the Redbull.

- McLaren’s have ridiculous pace, Norris could’ve been on the first or second row if he didn’t exceed the limits.

- Mercedes cars have gained a lot it seems. Lewis on P1 again but only after a feisty battle and some luck.

- Williams were great to watch today. Both cars in Q2 and Latifi showing impressive form.

- Alpines have definitely improved but Alonso seems to be taking some time to get back into the groove.

- Ferrari also seem much better. just bad luck for Carlos. Good effort by Charles.

- Aston Martin’s definitely need to improve. I also feel they prioritised more tyres over getting Vettel into Q3. Otherwise, he would’ve put a good lap in Q3.

- Poor Yuki, too much kerb led the car to oversteer and he crashed out in Q1 itself. But, fantastic performance for Gasly, very quick run for him.

- Car No. 9, I feel that was really dumb of him to do what he did with Giovinazzi. But, Mick was definitely driving the hell out of that car.

- Alfa Romeo have definitely made improvements. Giovinazzi had a good chance of getting into Q2, only if the above incident didn’t occur.

Definitely shaping up to be one of the better seasons that I’ve watched!

Checo ahead of Perez. We've a race tomorrow. What time in India does the race start?

Re: Formula 1: 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - Imola (16-18 April 2021)

Ferrari may be focussing on Red Bull and Mercedes but I have a feeling that McLaren is going to be a spoilsport to those ambitions. What a lap from Norris! ?He and the team are promising a delivering more every race. Pity that the lap was deleted but it is statement of intent as to what that car can do.

I was listening to FP3 today morning and thinking to myself that new comers into team are finding it hard to unseat the incumbents. Then Perez goes and does what he did in Q1. Beating Max in qualifying. And he remarked that it would have been P1 if not for a mistake in the final turn. The start promises fireworks!

Vettel at least managed to get his car into Q2 but had to do an extra lap as his first lap was deleted due to exceeding track limits. Hopefully he can improve the setup to be able to get the car further up. Looked much more comfortable in the run today.

That was certainly a somewhat shuffled qualifying. And Norris, what a lap by him! Him and Russell are surely going to going places in the next 2 years! Perez shows his mettle, he'd been doing so repeatedly in the pink team, finally someone recognised and gave him a car. I didn't like him when he joined up with mclaren, but to be fair he wasn't that great then, but I genuinely felt a sense of loss when he didn't have a ride for 21 last year. I'm really glad he's in a class leading car now.

Is subscribing to Hotstar VIP the only way to watch the race?

I usually use the Jio TV->Hotstar route to stream Star Select. But now all the star TV Channels seems to be populated by IPL stuff. The slot for today's race is shown to be just 1 hour! from 7:30PM onwards on STAR Sports HD2, which means they start to air once half the race is over!

I am afraid so. However, it is a small premium to pay considering the benefits, chief being the lack of intrusive ads.

Star Sports 3 is telecasting the race, they are telecasting quali highlights now, it's raining at the track, don't miss a minute.

Re: Formula 1: 2021 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix - Imola (16-18 April 2021)

Race Red flagged after a huge crash between George Russel and Valteri Bottas. Can't clearly figure out what happened exactly except that Russell and Bottas had some very unpleasant exchanges after the crash.
Terrible day for Mercedes with Hamilton crashing while lapping the tail enders and ending up into the wall. Kudos to him for backing out and still ending up within points.
Verstappen running very well and I so hope Perez gets a podium.

Nice race, Hamilton did a great job, obviously wouldn't have been possible without Bottas assistance. What a team player

This mercedes has so much pace.
