As the 2020 season comes to an end, it has, by far, been one of the best seasons for fans and one of the most hectic for the constructors and drivers.
We've been surprised by fantastic performances by the likes of Pierre Gasly, Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton and many, many more and so BHPians, please vote for your driver of the year.

To kick things off, it was a difficult choice to choose a winner between Perez, Russell, Leclerc & Norris. But in the end, it has to be Leclerc for me due to his fantastic performances in the tractor of a car that he has.

Charles Leclerc-
For putting the Ferrari to the very edge at every race, especially the quali sections. The over aggressive nature to hold on to the position did backfire few times (recently in the Sakir Grand Prix). But, he's left with no option, the car's slow, and grabbing all the opportunities was the only way forward.

Lewis Hamilton-
Though the car is fast and with that kind of pace, a win is guaranteed even if you make small mistakes in the race. Yet, he was seen pushing it, out qualifying his teammate.

Nico Hulkenberg !!

Hamilton, Leclerc and Perez all performed great. Obviously, Hamilton won his 7th title, Leclerc put the Ferrari where it didn’t deserve to be and Perez drove very well. But, all of them had the resources of their respective teams available to them from the beginning and thru out the season.

Nico literally came, saw and conquered. The way he performed with almost no time in the car is nothing short of amazing and easily wins driver of the year in my book.

Driver of the year for me would be Sergio Perez.
Getting kicked out of the team he personally saved and helped build, losing his seat with another year in the contract, defying mental pressure and still showing exemplary racecraft. The win at Sakhir GP was a testament of his skills and determination. Sad to see him not confirmed for 2021. Do Redbull come into play or will they stick with Albon?

Redbull has come into play, it seems. According to Ted Kravitz, Perez has been/will be signed soon and an announcement is due to come. Even Buxton hinted that some biggies in the paddock have confirmed that he has a seat.

The Mercedes W11 is simply superior and anyone can win with that car. Russel outperforming Bottas is a proof of that.

6 time(Now 7) world champion like Lewis will simply outperform Bottas in that car. So Lewis is not my choice for driver of the year.

It is an open secret that Ferrari have sabotaged Vettel's car to get more development time in the wind tunnel.
So Leclerc outperforming Vettel is not an achievement.

Voted for Perez. He shined bright against all odds. He didn't have a great car, was the number 2 driver in his team and to top it all, is uncertain about his future. Yet he gave some really amazing results throughout the season.

Hamilton would have been my second choice as I couldn't recall even 1 slip from his end in the entire season. Yes, he has a superior car but look at Bottas and the number of times he made small errors costing him time.

Checo Perez for me. Consistently scoring points throughout the season and topped it with a great win even after getting back stabbed from the team he helped immensely.

Voted for Sergio Perez, he has been the most consistent driver on the grid after Hamilton, P4 in the final points standings is huge, many wrote him off at the beginning of the season when Stroll had a surge of points finishes, look at where Stroll ended up, he's P10 with 74 points as against Sergio's 125.

Next on my list is Pierre Gasly, who would have thought he could make a comeback after being dropped by Red Bull mid season, he showed Helmet Marko what karma means this year. I am not sure if he would get that Red Bull seat again in the future, it's better he doesn't, the team is heavily favored towards Max to crown him as their champion and they just want a good second driver like Bottas.

3rd is a tie between Riccardo, George Russel and Lando. Excellent race pace from Riccardo, stunning qualifying sessions from George "Saturday" Russel and the race antics from Lando Norris.

I think this has been the best F1 season for a long time, hope they retain some of the tracks for next year.

Although I voted for Lewis Hamilton just because of his dominating 11 wins in the season, Perez has done a wonderful job with the limited resources that he had at his command

Charles was driving the living crap out of the tinbox that Ferrari gave him this year. He pushed that car so far into qualifying and into races. He did have several incidents this year but these things happen when you need to be aggressive to actually make an impact.

Hamilton, the living legend, had another spectacular season in F1. The argument that anyone can win with a Mercedes should be rested after this year with Bottas clearly displaying the level Lewis is at to consistently get that car on the podium week after week. Races at Monza and Turkey also gave Lewis the opportunity to demonstrate his talent.

George Russell, even without the Sakir GP, was on a personal best season. He drove hard to get that Williams in Q2 multiple times and still continued to outqualify his teammate at Williams (even if Latifi was never a contender). The future is bright for George and hopefully that Williams can make impactful improvements over the break.
