He was all of that and more!
During the three India F1s I was fortunate enough to interact with him and though very briefly, I always cherished those moments and shall continue to do so.

It certainly helped he came up the ranks as a mechanic, staring in F1 at Hesketh Racing and then with Bernie Eccelstone's Brabham outfit where he rose to chief mechanic during Nelson Piquet's championship years. It would certainly given him a perspective and an empathy for both sides. It takes a rare breed to be unsullied by the politics in F1 and I can't ever remember an incident where he was accused of partiality. Even with outbursts and abuse from drivers like Verstappen and Vettel last season he never seemed to make it an ego trip.
He leaves big boots for his successor to fill whoever that might be. RIP.
