Additional Information

Formula1 reaches SPA after a month long summer break. Major change has happened just before this race - Force India is now "Racing Point Force India". They forfeit all constructor points and start afresh under a consortium lead by Lance Stroll's Dad. Other than this alot of things have changed for the 2019 driver lineup with Riccardo moving to Renault and Alonso announcing his retirement from F1, Sainz moving to Mclaren and Gasly moving to Redbull.

Coming to Spa, this being a power hungry circuit, Red Bull might struggle against Ferrari and Merc. And it will be interesting to see who has caught up who after the summer break.

For further information -https://www.formula1.com/en/championship/races/2018/Belgium.html

Race and all other sessions would be telecast on Star Sport Select 2 HD/Star Sport Select 2

Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

Both Mercedes and Ferrari are running engine upgrades this race. Will be interesting to see who comes out on top.

Bottas and Hulkenberg will start from the back because of grid penalties for exceeding their allocations. It will be interesting to see how Hamilton fights two Ferraris at the top without his wingman!

Kimi gets only new ICE. Rest of the components will be old spec (TC/MGU-K/MGU-H) to avoid taking any penalties in this race, while Vettel gets complete set of new components.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

It looks like rain vs. Ferrari ! Rain has spoiled four weekends, if we consider last years Singapore. Hope we have a good race, mixed grid will make it interesting.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

That was carnage at first corner, that ends the race for 5 drivers. Rather horrendous looking accident ended race for Alonso, Hulkenberg, Leclerc, and later Raikkonen and Ricciardo.
All top 4 had a safe and good start, Vettel overtaking Hamilton on long straight, and never relinquishing P1 then after. Great race for Verstappen, Bottas, Perez and Ocon, finishing P3 to P6. Especially for Bottas who came all the way back from P17.
Racing Point Force India starts great, immediately overtaking Williams in constructors championship, just one point behind Sauber. Add it to relinquished points, Force India could have stood 3 points behind Renault and 1 point infront of Haas. There was a very good chance that they could've finished fourth best team three years in a row.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

A boring race with some easy overtakes on the straights. First lap was interesting with Vettel and Hamilton fighting for P1 and Ocon surprised them by almost taking the P1. Here is a nice capture of that fight,

Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix-capture.jpg

Overall, a good restart for Force India by picking 18 points and they have moved ahead of Williams and just a point behind Sauber.

And the fight for driver champions had further narrowed down to 17 points.

Unlucky Alonso, couldn't even reach the first corner.

Absolutely horrid from Hulkenberg. Braking like its his 1st race in F1.

Ferrari on it. A win at Monza will be huge for the Tifosi.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

The first lap incident could have been a lot worse if it wasn't for the "Halo".

Check out the damage that the Halo took from the Flying Spaniard's rogue car.

Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix-untitled.png

Now imagine LeClerc's head taking the same beating. We'd have in all probability lost another young, promising driver just like we did Jules Bianchi.

As for the race itself, very strong showing from Vettel and Ferrari. Hoping for a Ferrari 1-2 at Monza next week.

Hamilton in the post-race Interview admitted that Ferrari have an advantage on long straight. Couple that with Monza and I think it is advantage Ferrari.

24 points cut to 17 points. 8 races to go. Hope this goes down to the wire unlike last year.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

Such drama in the first lap! And what terrific timing for the overtake from Vettel; given that the SC came in merely a few seconds after, the result would have been different had he not done it. He couldn't time the re-start of the race as perfectly though, barely staved off the overtake challenge from Hamilton.

And yes, the Halo did its job yesterday, that was some nasty crash.

Vettel still trails by 17 points, not a comfortable enough margin.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

What a dominant drive by Vettel and Ferrari!!
Ferrari has clearly moved ahead of Mercedes in the development battle. I guess it is the first time in last 4-5 years any car overtook Mercedes on a high speed track and they could not fight back.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

oh boy! Didn't Vettel and Ferrari really needed that? Great result for the championship. The Ferrari looks good.

Lewis attacked Vettel too soon after the restart and ruined his tyres a bit. He should have waited for Eau Rouge. That said, the Ferrari was able to pull a gap to the Merc at will.

And what a move by Bottas on the outside of the most glorious corner in F1. Amazing! He recovered well after the first lap incident.

Hulk really devoid us of an engaging race. Took too many good cars and drivers out and it was unlike Spa once the field settled after that incident.

Halo really helped. Alonso's McLaren landed on the halo of Leclerc after being airborne. Glad its made of titanium and can take the weight of a double decker bus.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

Well, The Merc just didn't have anything to say to the Ferrari once it was ahead. It was surprising to see the deficit. Ferrari has really buckled up mid season.
I hope this indicates a nail biter of a season.

Re: Formula 1: The 2018 Belgian Grand Prix

Ferrari definitely has the strongest power unit now. There's absolutely no doubt about that. The improvement in their PU has been absolutely epic this year.

I'm sure no one in Mercedes expected the overtake to be so easy and on the first lap.
