Formula 1 reaches back to Europe this weekend. It is back in france after 10 years and back at Paul Ricard after 20+ years. Also, this weekend also marks the start of 3 back to back races. This is happening for the first time in formula 1 history. Coming to the circuit is a highly power dependent circuit so it should favor Merc and Ferrari. The circuit is an unknown for everyone as limited tyre testing has been done on this track by various teams over the years. The tyres used in race will have tread lesser by 0.4mm (same as Barcelona). So lets see if Ferrari still struggle like they did in Barcelona
Coming to the top 3 teams
Mercedes - High power circuit with long sweeping corners. Mercedes should feel at home. They would be wanting to find form at the start of the triple header
Ferrari - Ferrari is in great form. The car has been working on all form of circuits. The engine has equal grunt as compared to Mercedes. They will be hoping to gather good points form this race.
Redbull - Power hungry circuit but with long sweeping corners. Redbull may or may not be on the spot but you can count them out.
Lets see what French GP has in store for us. Let the races begin.

Nice to have a new circuit thrown into the mix. Would be interesting to see how the modern day F1 cars race on this circuit.
Sector 1 and 3 may favor the Bulls given their low speed nature compared to the rest of the circuit. It would also be interesting to see how the track favors overtaking opportunities. Historically it seems to be very hard on the engines and for those drivers on older engines managing reliability might be something that could make the race interesting.

Regarding tyre compounds we have a softer range than in Barcelona but we tend to prefer the harder ones, so I think what we have here it’s OK. With all the changes that have been made to F1 cars since 1990 when the track was last used in F1, it is sure to throw up some curve balls as the weekend progresses.

Impressive lap times set by Pierre Gasly especially on supersofts while rest of 5he field is running on ultras. Both Toro Rosso's above Mclaren. Looks like Redbull knew exactly what they were doing, Redbull must be pleased with this.

Charles Leclerc put the car where it just doesn't belong and he's been doing it for a few weeks now, if at all he gets the Ferrari drive next year it'll be amazing to see him go neck and neck with the top guys, and his racecraft is just so clean, hope he does well.
McLaren below the force Indias who are struggling with money and below one of the Toro Rosso which runs on fraction of McLaren's budget, this is just pathetic on their part at this point of the season.
Somehow this course does no excite me at all. Let is hope how the race goes. By the looks of it the Mercs have the 'inside track'. However, Ferrari and now Red Bull can never be ruled out. Even more so if there is rain.

Hamilton takes a 14 point lead in the Championship.
If vettel hadn't made the contract with bias in lap 1, he might have actually had the chance to take the win, but the race would've been pretty boring then.
And Charles Leclerc doing an excellent job holding on to points.
Great racing weekend! Did anyone notice kimi overtaking Ric? Man!! One of the best moves! Vintage Kimi!
After few processions, this was a race with good overtaking opportunities.
Good recovery by Vettel after the first lap incident with Bottas but he only has himself to be blamed for losing an opportunity to challenge Hamilton for the race win.
Disaster for Force India and Mclaren.
Superb drive by Leclerc to take P10.
Vettel has got to watch it. He can't afford to make such mistakes (running into Bottas at the start). Losing these points will come back to bite him toward the end of the season. Remember how things were smooth for him in 2017, until his mistakes began in Singapore?

Wonder who McLaren will blame now :D. Honda must have let out a chuckle or two yesterday.

I have a slightly different POV. While I agree it was his fault to an extent, I still think this was a racing incident.
Vettel was phenomenally fast off the grid and literally had to back off as he had nowhere to go with a slow merc right in front and a merc he had almost passed to his right. I don't think Bottas fully expected Vettel to be there and he thought he would close the door on him. Both mercs even entered the corner slowly thereby making Vettel lock up.
Other than Vettels comeback drive the race was fairly boring. Only the chicane had any overtaking which both Ferrari's used.
Thankfully Ferrari didn't stop Kimi from Overtaking Vettel, which helped Kimi catch Ricciardo and get that last podium place. They probably would have done it if Vettle didn't have the 5s penalty.

True Vettel ruined the race for Bottas and only 5 sec penalty for that is ridiculous. Even the commentators were shocked with such a lenient penalty. I wonder what the penalty would have been if that was done by Max.
No matter how good of a start you have, there is no way you can justify running into the back of a car. If Vettel was that fast he should have qualified 1st and if he was not on pole he cannot bulldoze through cars ahead of him no matter how fast his car is.
Bottas held his racing line and the stewards saw that and rightly penalized Vettel but the price was paid by Bottas who had to drive with a damaged car.
As for the race both Hamilton and Max had a very good race. The championship is wide open for drivers as well as constructors.
I agree with Vid6639: It was a racing incident. Let us leave it at that. Otherwise I am sure Vettel would have won the race.
I do not find this circuit at all exciting.
