Circuit Information:

The Spanish Grand Prix at the Circuito de Jerez is a colourful event which draws massive crowds from all over to watch the world’s best riders do battle in the sunshine of Andalusia. The Jerez circuit in southern Spain, hosted its first Grand Prix a year later and has remained on the MotoGP calendar ever since.

Built in 1986 and hosting its first Grand Prix one year later, the circuit of Jerez is now one of the most popular MotoGP venues and the focal point for a city fanatical about sport. Set in a slight valley in the south of Spain, Jerez is blessed with consistently good weather and beautiful scenery, its numerous grandstands providing viewing facilities for up to 250,000 spectators.

With two alternative road circuits (4,423 m and 4,428 m), which were resurfaced during 2005, Jerez is a popular venue used by many race teams for testing throughout the year, whilst its recently updated corporate and media facilities have proven to be a popular addition to the complex. Other facilities such as the control tower and pit boxes have also been vastly improved.

As a nation, Spain has produced some great riders over the years such as Angel Nieto, Ricardo Tormo, Sito Pons, Alex Criville and Jorge Martinez “Aspar”. The likes of Jorge Lorenzo, Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa and Maverick Viñales now continue the Spanish success story in the premier class.

Dovi tops FP1 beating COTA winner Marc. KTM smells blood at Jerez with Pol on 3rd.

Then again, Cal Crutchlow tops the second free practice session with Marc crashing out. Dani and Zarco make 2nd & 3rd respectively. Yamaha works riders Valentino Rossi and Maverick Vinales made up 9th & 10th, but Vinales is not currently on course to claim an automatic Q2 spot - as his time was slower than the practice one effort of KTM's Pol Espargaro.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Spanish Grand Prix

Argentina 2018 race winner Cal pulls a record lap to grab pole position.

Jerez 2017 race winner Dani on second followed by the French man Zarco completing the front row.

Marc Marquez to start from 5th. Factory Yamaha woes continue as Vale and Maverick start from 10th and 11th respectively.

What may make the race interesting is that the two Suzukis also appear to have good pace and should be able to scrap with the front runners.

One corner, takes out three top riders. Pedrosa, Lorenzo and Dovizioso all taken out in one corner, while chasing Marquez. That was a big moment. Lorenzo was looking so comfortable on the bike, if not a podium, he was a sureshot top 4. What this incident has done is, Dovi lost the championship lead and moved to P5.
Crutchlow crashed second race in a row. Rins crashed for third time in four races.
Zarco and Iannone completed the podium, with Zarco in second place in championship.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Spanish Grand Prix

Zarco is an absolute star. Taking on the biggies as an independent team rider. Tech3 won't be with Yamaha in 2019 and Zarco's contract ends in 2018. He'll he hot property soon. I hope he gets a place in the Repsol Honda team to give Marq Marquez a tough time. Right now, the entire season is somewhat dominated by Marquez. It will be fun to watch Zarco on a faster factory bike pitting against MM.

Zarco has already signed the KTM contract for next year.

It was a bad racing incident, can't really blame anyone but what a change in the championship.

Yamaha's woes continue on a hot track and not sure how they will deal with this...

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Spanish Grand Prix

It was almost given that MM would win Spanish GP & he did. Racing incident between Lorenzo, Dani & Dovi felt similar to an incident on Indian streets.

Re: MotoGP : The 2018 Spanish Grand Prix

An interesting record for Valentino Rossi at the Spanish GP.

The nine-time world champion and MotoGP legend Valentino Rossi completed 40,075 km of racing at Lap 15 of the Spanish GP, enough to take a lap around the world.

The feat is even more extra ordinary once you consider the fact the laps in consideration are only race laps and does not include the ones during practice and qualifying. This, coupled with the fact the rider still remains one of the most competitive on the grid after about two decades, is certainly exemplary.
