Except for the sour puss who was the only driver to skip the event. He decided to go on vacation to Greece and ride along with Bieber in a Pagani Zonda.

He may be a really fast driver but his attitude is going downhill. After the qualifying he gets out of the car and the first thing after taking the helmet off is to wear his 5-6 gold chains for the press conference. Really funny.

Nice quali! Risky, nothing to lose move from McLaren in Q1 and a bang on lap from Fernando.
Lap of the weekend goes to Lewis. Stunning lap to put it on Pole. Now he's golden again with the fans!

Hope its a wets race right through. Only time gloomy UK weather has a positive impact!

Seriously. Why this attitude?

Quote:
Lewis Hamilton remains defiant about his decision not to attend the Formula One event held in London as a precursor to Sunday’s British Grand Prix. He was the only one of the 20 drivers not to take part, instead opting to take a two-day holiday in Greece as the best way to prepare.

When Hamilton’s name was announced at the F1 show in Trafalgar Square attended by 100,000 fans and organised by the sport’s new owners, the Formula One Group, it was booed. His rationale for being absent has been questioned, especially given his oft-repeated desire to connect with his fans, but he is insistent he made the right decision.

For Hamilton preparation for the race was the priority. “Everyone had the right to make the decision for themselves,” he said. “I felt it’s been a pretty intense season so far and I felt it’s the best way to prepare. The season is the most important thing for me. That’s it.

“I feel like I’ve said all I want to say. I think I do try to connect with the fans. I try to engage as much as I can. Fans mean everything. They always have.”

The three-times world champion also denied his not attending the event reflected any lack of passion for the British Grand Prix. “I love this race,” he said. “I don’t feel that Wednesday plays any role in how important this weekend is for me. Every season for the last 10 years has been incredible. You get people who have saved up so much to come to this grand prix and I think you will see how much I appreciate and respect that.”

Terrible race for Ferrari. Pace was not great and tyres were eaten up before the last lap. Very disappointing. On the same tyres Mercedes did a stunning race. Ferrari engineering is going downhill.

They seemingly gambled for a bit of rain with the setup, they've been better on tires compared to Merc all season.

re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

Mercedes literally crushed the competition at Silverstone today. First with Hamilton setting the pace at the front with Raikkonen though matching his pace unable to do much more. Then to rub salt into Ferrari's wounds Bottas came up from behind and gobbled up Vettel. Verstappen's awesome start put paid to Ferrari's hopes with him holding up Vettel for quite some laps. Ferrari achieved the undercut on Verstappen but the damage had been done by them. Just after the start I felt Vettel got the run on both Raikkonen and Verstappen but seemed to defer to his teammate. He tried to tuck in behind Raikkonen but the Flying Dutchman was having none of that.

Terrible piece of luck for Ferrari and Raikkonen in particular. Just when he seemed all set for 2nd. I also found it very strange that the Supersofts did not fare as badly as the softs. Are the softs much more sensitive to temperature being a harder compound?

The Red Bulls continue to impress me. I don't think there is another car with the balance and the aerodynamic prowess that this car has. With an engine, the calibre of Mercedes this car would be unbeatable. Taking nothing away from Verstappen and Riccardo, the way these guys seem to be able to beat other drivers under braking, overtaking from the outside etc. I believe that Newey's chassis has more than a little to do with it. Verstappen's wheel to wheel duel with Vettel and Riccardo's overtaking moves coming from so far behind were just superb.

With the Honda Spec 3 engine in the McLaren, I had high hopes for Alonso. Was a bitter disappointment to see him retire after the high of Q1 yesterday.

Force India was the best of the rest except for the lone Renault of the Hulk.

Drive on,
Shibu.

The race! Wasn't as engaging as I thought it would be. Brundle got a stomach virus and he was out from the commentary team - and there is no one else I really want to listen to for F1.

Lewis was unchallenged at the front after Max wrecked Vettel' race. But fair play to the young Dutch, he held the place really well.

Vettel seems to be taking it well even though Natalie tried her level best to get a reaction.

If Ferrari cannot come back at the tight Hungaroring in two weeks time, its season over mostly. Mercedes seems to have understood their 'Diva' a lot better now.

re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

Good race! Amazing last few laps. Ferrari seem to have gone very aggressive with their front wing settings and the result was blown tyres for both the cars. This defenitely spoiled the race for both Raikonnen and Vettel.

There are now 3 drivers in the race for 2017 trophy.
Vettel - 177
Hamilton - 176
Bottas - 154

This is an excellent proposition for the fans in the upcoming races. Would love to see Hamilton's behavior once Bottas gets close to him or overtakes him!

Once again, the commentary was too focused on everything British! It's now getting too churlish.

re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

The PU and chassis updates seem to have given Mercedes an advantage.
In any case, the Hungaroring should be easier on the shorter wheelbased Ferrari. Interesting to see what happens there.

With Renault taking a step forward, things are in a flux in the midfield too.
McLaren with the latest update from Honda are in the ball park now. Hungary they are supposed to introduce some more aero updates.

Stoffel was matching Williams and Force India race pace during certain periods but only 0.1s-0.2s off their average lap times.

Av. lap time at Silverstone:
1:37.933 (Vandoorne)
1:37.855 (Massa)
1:37.798(Ocon)
1:37.838 (Perez)

Chuffed for Lewis, but the star drive was, of course, Bottas. What a drive!!
The luckiest man on the grid was Raikkonen that he still managed to end up where he did.
Finger boy? Well no one to blame but....

Re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

Lewis drove like a champ, and so did Bottas. to the Mercedes drivers & team work. What a recovery by Bottas to finish in 2nd. For that matter, even Ricciardo provided a lot of entertainment with his overtaking moves.

Comment of the race was from Max Verstappen "If he wants to play bumper cars, I'll show him how" . Great fight with Vettel. Was saddened at him losing the spot in the pits, but the Ferrari was quicker anyway. Only a matter of time.

Speaking of Ferrari, what the heck were they doing yesterday? Two cars losing their tyres within moments of each other! Their gamble was way too risky. The championship is now too close for such errors.

At this stage of the season, IMHO Mercedes has increased the overall gap to Ferrari. The Italians are going to have to dig real, real deep.

Re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

I quite like this race, the action behind #44 was quite a sight!

Hats to both Bottas and Ricciardo for those recovery drives, the Honey Badger's passing game was on point all afternoon! And Bottas seemed to know exactly where he wanted to end up in the race, he really did put the hammer down towards the end, really warming up to him. I honestly thought he would be a support driver all season , now I hope Mercedes give him an extension.

But what really impressed me was Verstappen putting Vettel in his place. Tit-for-tat during that first duel with him, and he left him in the dust right after. I love seeing Vettel thwarted, especially so by someone as cool as Max. Like shibujp said above, a better PU and this would be a five way fight for the title! It would be great if RB got an upgraded PU and took the fight to Mercedes and Ferrari in the latter half of the season. i also really felt that Vettel's standard defence was to push drivers off the road, he did it with Max at the start and Bottas towards the end. Unsportsmanlike.

What a season this is turning out to be!

Re: 2017 Formula 1 British GP - Silverstone

As some one mentioned before, the race was boring once Lewis and Kimi drove into the distance. But, what a spectacle the Max vs Vettel episode, those multiple passes by Ricciardo and the last few laps of the race provided? As usual, Lewis turned in a mega drive at Silverstone. The man is literally untouchable in his home race. Bottas is impressive as he has been in the last few races.

The championship starts afresh after 10 races with nothing between Lewis and Vettel. Ferrari are seemingly stuck where they started the year while Mercedes is running ahead with the in-season development.

Well, what do I say about Kimi? I'll just say it's tough to be in his shoes in 2017. Either his own team is against him or luck is against him.

What do you think Max's defense is? With all due credits to the aggression, the freshness, the breathtaking passing moves and the thousands of fans he has brought into the sport (including me), Max's defense has always been pushing his opponents out of the circuit. He has done that not once or twice but on multiple occasions right from his Toro Rosso days. What's also surprising is the lenient approach adopted by the stewards when it comes to Max.

If you are talking about Daniel Ricciardo, that's different. He's graceful, he's fair and his overtakes and defenses are textbook perfect most of the times.
