Hulk penalized for using wrong set of tyres. Apparently the tag. nos. were filed as returned after FP1.
Sainz penalized for impeding Massa.
After considering the penalty for Grosjean for gearbox change, the provisional starting grid is as below. Alonso moves to the clean side of track.

After the customary overtake at start, Lewis controlled the race nicely.
Onto summer break with the championship decided, me thinks.
Nico, the master of the extremely late turn in. 5 second penalty for something that would have been a racing incident a few years ago as mentioned by Mansell in his tweet.
It gave me great pleasure when McLarens overtook midfield cars on track. That too on a power track.

The new radio freedom seems to be providing the much needed entertainment. Liked the banter between Seb and Ferrari about undercutting Max.
Vettel is obsessed with blue flags. It wouldn't be race day without a radio call from Seb about blue flags.
Maybe the frustration is getting to him as Ferrari clearly becomes the 3rd best team as they head into the summer break.
BTW, a car did hit 350 on the speed trap, well..almost:D.
Poor Rosberg will never win a championship unless he does it during this season with Merc advantage! As usual a good start and dominating drive from Hamilton. Red Bull's progress is much appreciated compared to their position at the start of the season.

Great race for Lewis and the Bulls. Renault have stated there will be no more improvements on the PU this year, if Ferrari continue to develop they may have a chance at rescuing 2nd place in the Constructors on PU performance.
Interesting race when it came to tire deg, kept viewers and engineers guessing!
Nice to see McLaren-Honda overtake in a race! Honda are allowed to work during the summer break from what I hear (on account of being a supplier). The Spa/Monza update will need to be a substantial one to guarantee a top 10 finish till the end of the season and to give the team a chance to make up the 39 point deficit to Force India in 9 remaining races.

Precisely what happened! Vintage Lewis ... overtake at the start and make Nico come up with excuses as to why he couldn't fight!
I would love to see Max in the Mercedes ( or a competitive car ) though. The guy is just an awesome racer with a brilliant future.
Mercedes obviously will be p1 but RB seem to be well ahead of Ferrari. Perhaps that's why all Seb can do is crib about blue flags!
McLaren is one to watch out for post the summer break. Williams seem to be going downhill. I think we can expect McLaren to be racing with Williams and Force India for p4.
I also hope to see Mick racing in F1 soon. Was good to see him watching the race.
Someone needs to remind Nico that he is driving a F1 car and not a bus or a long tractor trailer. I have only seen those taking corners like that.
Going deep into a corner and turn as late as possible so that the rear tyre and not the front is clipping the apex. lol:

The way you put it was hilarious and this one had me laughing my guts out. Yep Nico himself is responsible for his maladies.
He ruined his own race by that stupid move over Max. He doesn't deserve his seat at Mercedes anymore if I were to be brutally honest.
Who has taught Nico that move?
Twice now, and both times its been stupid. The commentators were pretty mad about it. That there is a trust between drivers that you will turn, and not try and ram.

IMO, that penalty was a load of bull! How can they decide without seeing the telemetry data whether he didn't turn on purpose or if he was unable to turn (maybe because of a late lunge)?? Ric is famous for his late lunges & getting away with it. Infact, he's called daring when he does that. MV clearly changed direction twice while defending against Kimi and wasn't penalized, not sure why Nico was.
I think the stewards have their starry blinkers on when things come to MV. He's gotten away with a lot of things than he has been penalized for. BTW, didn't anyone notice that MV had all 4 wheels outside the white line when he overtook Ric at the start? Or are kerbs also part of the track?
Anyway, this is the 2nd GP in succession where I turned off the TV mid race because I got bored. Am no more as excited about a GP weekend I used to be. F1 has probably become the most boring sport to watch.
Nico Rosberg is really stupid to try the same move again. He could have atleast made it look like he tried to take the racing line. There was no attempt to turn the steering, even slightly, till the very last moment. What a ham handed attempt. With cameras focussing on the steering wheel what was he thinking?.
Except for the first few laps pretty boring race. I was hoping the few drops of rain in the dying stage would mix things up. But it was too little too late.
I was thinking Rosberg's penalty was right, but Anthony Davidson's analysis in the below video changed my mind. I think it was a racing incident and Rosberg was penalized wrongly. This is the video I mentioned:

The other aspect is that this is exactly what he did to Lewis in Austria. If this had been the first time, he may got the benefit of doubt and gotten away with it.
Now, if he were do this again later in the season, he will definitely get more than a 5 second penalty.
I come from the school of thought that it was a racing incident. If anyone acted a bit naughty, then it was Verstappen, who made a sudden move to the right in the braking zone, pushing Rosberg over the tyre marbles, and causing him to go long into the corner. In real time, it did appear that Rosberg was at maximum braking, and he simply couldn't have stopped any faster. As far as, not turning the steering until the very end, we all know that turning while max braking does not go well, and each one of us in that position would have not turned until the required retardation to make the turn is achieved. Also, no racer is consciously going to flatspot his tyres, fresh from the pits.
All in all, in my view, it was an unintentional racing incident, caused due to the combination of Verstappen making yet another kamikaze move in the braking zone, and Rosberg, being on the dirty part of the track, choosing to go long into the corner instead of flatspotting his fronts. Penalty is harsh, in my opinion.
Does anyone have any idea as to what happened at the pitstop when the 5 sec penalty for Rosberg was taken, he was stationary for 12 odd seconds, a typical pit stop stationary time is 2 odd secs, plus the penalty time of 5 secs should have meant he should have been stationary for only maximum 8 secs. What actually happened. Did FIA goof up in the penalty or the crew didn't immediately start changing tyres after the 5 sec penalty?
Apparently, it was a stopwatch failure, which resulted in the long pit stop.

Anyway, Hamilton's well on his way to WDC no. 4. I am not sure about the penalty though. I think the sport is getting softer with time.
