Re: 2014 Singapore GP - Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race Thread

A pic floating around (obviously by folks who don't like LH). Is that allowed or was it off track limits?

Don't white lines define the track limit?

Yes, they do.

But this has been discussed on shows many many times over. If a driver does not gain any advantage by going off track limits, then it's not a cause for concern.

Here's Crofty's tweet explaining the same.

Are we heading towards the closest race finish of 2014?
With the race being a 3 stopper.. strategy will be key.

Missed the qualifying yesterday, watching the replay now. It's on star sports 2 now if anyone wants to watch. The entire atmosphere is so different to that of the Italian grand prix, everyone was so consistent there. Today will be a great race!

Finally, Rosberg getting some bad luck!

Hope this brings Lewis back in the race for the championship, heading into the final leg.

Suzuka should be absolutely amazing! Can't wait!

I really feel bad for him though. Nothings favoring him after the duo had their crash.

Wasn't Vergne handed a 5 second stop/go penalty during the closing stages? How did he finish in 6th place then? They didn't show him stopping for the penalty.

5 second was added to his finish time. But still he ended with 6ths since the difference between P6 and P7 was around 8-9 secs

By the way it was a awesome last lap. Bottas losing around 5 positions, vergne and perez utilized the advantage of the fresher softs.

Watching Hamilton gunning it in last 20 laps was amazing. If everyone would not adopt tyre saving strategy the race could have been lot quicker and more fun.

Hamilton in championship lead and pressure back on Rosberg.

Riccardo I felt didnt chase down Vettel.

Didn't miss Schumi much today. Wow! what a drive from Lewis. 13 odd quali laps.

Poor Nico. Hope we can see him fighting with Lewis back in Suzuka.

Alonso could had did something to catch Bulls. I think he did a bad strategy to change tyres under Safety Car.

Anyway wonderful GP. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Cheers!

Wow. What a race! It was amazing how Hamilton pulled away so far from the pack. Makes me wonder how much if it is driver input and how much from the car, wonder how Hamilton would be if he was put in a Caterham or Marussia. Lol

Re: 2014 Singapore GP - Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race Thread

Exciting race and Hamilton finally catches his lucky break. Now the championship battle is wide open again.

The Red Bulls and the Williams practically ensured that no one but Hamilton could drive at the pace they wanted, which helped Hamilton considerably. If Alonso was not stuck behind the Red Bulls, he might have prevented Hamilton from opening up that pit window on him.

Clearly, Ferrari cannot overtake others in their 2014 car- period. Alonso and Raikkonen both were unable to get past cars on worn out tyres!

Massa should really thank Bottas for keeping him immune to the entire traffic while saving tyres. I'm sure Massa would have given away that position and the tyres in a few laps if he was under pressure.

Great job by Bottas in defending against Button and Raikkonen, though he was lucky to have that straight line speed advantage to counter the DRS.

I don't know if it is the electric cabling for the lights or the temperature in Singapore or some other issue but that was far too many electrical issues to be a coincidence. Kimi facing issues during this final qualifying lap, Nico and Kobayashi (?) at the start and Button towards the end - that is too many instances to be a coincidence. IIRC, Webber had a gearshift issue here in the past which was again due to electrical issue.

Re: 2014 Singapore GP - Marina Bay Street Circuit - Race Thread

I was expecting a boring race, but the safety car made the scene better. Excellent drive by Lewis to build the gap, and join back right behind Vettel after the last pit stop. It would have been hard if he got in behind the two Red Bulls.
Was this the first podium for Vettel this season?

What a drive by Hammy buay!!
Nothing less than slaps in various faces, those closing laps. He was dejected a few races back about the lead being a lot, but he's right back in there now. Going to be a test for Nico to show if he can do the same, if he can also capitalize on any more bad luck which may come upon Hamilton, although if it's down to the wire, nothing Nico has done shows he can maintain composure.

Brilliant, BRILLIANT weekend.

Vettel beats his team mate finally ! Return to form?
Regarding LH pulling away in the final stages, wasn't he on super softs?
