Pedrossa shines but Rossi glows at Donington Park! Dani Pedrossa won his 2nd premier class race in just his 1st year astride a MOTOGP bike, but Valentino Rossi was the man who actually brought sunshine at Donington Park.
Pedrossa started from pole position, having had a great weekend, but the actual surprise was Marco Melandri who found his way to the front of the grid on the third spot. A very bad weekend for Rossi, Edwards and Hayden saw them line up at 12th, 10th and 11th places respectively.
The race started and Melandri took the lead with Pedrossa close on his heels, and then the latter committed a horrible mistake by braking real hard and late and ran really wide, followed by a scary highside but still managed to stay on the bike (damn!). He then overtook John Hopkins and Macro Melandri and ran a solo race from there. Meanwhile, Rossi charged through the pack from 12th on the grid though he was bottled up behing Nakano for quite a while. Since he had selected a hrad rear, it came good towards the end of the race. He was 2 1/2 seconds behind Stoner in 6th, which he cut and reached third in a matter of 3-4 laps. He then overtook Melandri, who then did a Rossi on Rossi and dived on his inside to regain 2nd spot. Rossi, not to be outdone, made the same move a lap later and took 2dn place by a whisker, while Hayden finished 7th after making a bad mistake at the Fogarty SS. The next race is at Germany in a coupla weeks.
Jorge Lorenzo again won the 250cc race, 9 seconds ahead of his opponents, after championship leader Andrea Dovizioso who stalked him for a while crashed but still managed to finish 6th.
As usual, thanks to a power cut, I missed the 125cc race again.
Let's pray to see Rossi on top this year again! |
