Indian racing driver Parth Ghorpade finished twice in the podium (3rd and 2nd places) during the recently concluded third round of the 2012 Formula Pilota Championship.
The Eurasia Motorsport driver's exploits at the Ordos International Circuit through the weekend also pushed him up to second place in the Asian Drivers’ standings of the series.
18 year old Ghorpade is a five-time National Karting Champion, runner-up in the inaugural 2010 Volkswagen Polo Cup India, and recently competed in the Renault F4 series in 2011, finishing in the top five multiple times.
Race summary
In the three races during the weekend, Ghorpade finished in 6th, 3rd and 2nd places respectively overall. However, among the Asian drivers these finishes improved to 5th, 2nd and 1st places for him. He now has an impressive four podium finishes in six races.
Ghorpade started the weekend slow as he struggled with the balance of his car. He lagged in the qualifying as he could not get the car to turn into the corners properly. He only managed to finish 6th after lagging behind throughout qualifying session. It was important to start high up in the grid as the Ordos circuit does not encourage overtaking.
Although Ghorpade finished 6th in the Race 1, he managed to set up the 3rd fastest lap time during the race. This gave him 3rd place start for Race 2, where he held his position from start to end to finish in 3rd place. The young Indian driver saved the best for the last race of the round as he beat three cars from 5th position in the starting grid to finish 2nd in the race (1st place among Asian drivers).
