Interiors clearly inspired by the SLS.I wish they had made the front look a bit sleeker.
The huge grille kind off looks a bit out of place on the SLK.

While a huge improvement over the previous car, this still holds no match in terms of the sheer presence of the Z4, hopefully it drives very well or else there is no single reason anyone would choose this over the gorgeous Z4, earlier the metal roof was it's USP which no is not,

Cars like this and the new E are the reason so many Mercedes-Benz fans including me have changed sides,

Will wait for the reviews for my final judgement but does not look like a winner for now,

Looks like Mercedes is moving over from its pansy image to a butch and solid one again. With most of their cars adopting sharper and stronger lines and the deep in-yer-face grilles, it's quite refreshing! All cars that roll out of the Mercedes factory now wear stronger and bolder appeal, much like the Mercedes of the '80s and '90.

This one looks like a baby SLS more than the SL.

Good stuff Mercedes! Good to see you getting back to your roots!

I just cannot control my happiness now! what a car and what an Advertisement. Though I didnt understand a word of what the beauty Merc said but I could feel it way to go mercedes. Finally they have realised that they are not a chrysler to make cheap shabby cars, rather they are the Germans who strive for perfection and highest quality.

Well, my experience with this car is little unique. when i was in germany, I too happened to be in the same city where this SL series and all sports cars of Mercedes is made. That is in Bremen near Hamburg. Luckily, she did accept my love and I got a internship in a company right opposite to her factory. I used to drool over her everday and I felt bad while leaving office every evening because I cannot see my love. My boss had an SLK a 1998 model. I got a chance to sit in the passenger's seat of the car. Wow what a machine and it happened to be my first ever ride in a mercedes and it came in a SLK.

I hope with this car, that Mercedes lives upto their old name of making sturdy, reliable, super-fine cars.

Great find there Scoopmeister Sidindica . Looks like the SLS is proving to be the catalyst of change. I'm thoroughly enjoying the new found Mercedes magic with the new design philosophy as is expressed through the slew of models being revealed.

Pic no 4.2 reminded me of the R170. That is the rear-quarter and door amalgamation.
They've designed it to look like a poor man's convertible SLS.

Mercedes-Benz has officially unveiled the 2012 SLK roadster.
The most distinguishing feature of the new SLK, now in its third generation, is the panoramic roof with Magic Sky Control, whereby the the transparency of the 'vario-roof' can be changed from light to dark.

The new front face of the SLK, with its more upright grill, references the SLS AMG as well as being in keeping with Benz's new design paradigm which is holding to that feature. But the new design still improves on the SLK's drag co-efficient, though - 0.30 compared to the previous model's 0.32.

The SLK350 model comes fitted with a new 3.5 liter V6 doling out 302 bhp (225 kW / 306 PS) and powering the SLK to a 0 to 60 mph (97 km/h) sprint time of 5.4 seconds. Top speed is 155 mph (250 km/h).


An SLK250 will be launched later in the year with a 1.8 liter unit producing 201 PS (148 kW). The SLK250 has a respectable 0 to 60 mph sprint time of 6.5 seconds and also features the same top speed as in the V6.

Mercedes-Benz promises a better ride on the new SLK thanks to firmer springs and dampers on the suspension and torque vectoring brakes.

New technology on the SLK includes an Airguide windstop system - a new invention from Mercedes-Benz's clever engineers to help control air flow and noise in the cabin area when the top is down.

Order books open in Germany on 17 January 2011. The prices including VAT are as follows:

SLK 200 BlueEFFICIENCY: 38,675 euros,
SLK 250 BlueEFFICIENCY: 44,256.10 euros,
SLK 350 BlueEFFICIENCY: 52,300.50 euros.
The 2012 SLK-Class makes its U.S. showroom debut in summer 2011.

The “Edition 1” is opulently appointed and its standard specification includes the panoramic vario-roof, the Dynamic Handling package, AMG bodystyling, two-tone designo nappa leather with contrasting topstitching, AIRSCARF, ambient lighting and more.

The curvy roof doesn't go with the straight lines and the butch and masculine image that the new SLK reeks of. It looks much better with the top down IMO.

Love the way the rest of the car looks though, especially that slight coke-bottle-ish design feature that's prominent in the third picture in jaguar.run's post.

Also, love the way Mercedes has incorporated bits of the SLS into the new SLK, for example, the design of the dashboard and the strong and muscular hood.

Now for TG or FG to pitch it against the Z4 and to see how it fairs when introduced in the Indian market. Will it be able to dethrone the reigning king Z4?

gorgeous absolutely beautiful. The SLS designs are very visible and the best part IMHO is the rear, finally probably a Merc with a great rear after quite a long time.
