spyshots: 2012 Audi A6. EDIT:Now Revealed, Pics on Pg.2

Finally, after 6 long years Audi engineers have began work on the next A6, to ride on the firm's new MLB platform which underpins the new A4, A7, A8 and Q5.
Bits and pieces of A7 and A8 will form the underpinnings, whereas despite the disguise, evolutionery lines are evident in the design with a hint of A7 and mini A8 bits thrown in, though the car appears slightly larger and lower.
Engine descriptions are unknown but of course, a number of fsi and tdi motors are being tested. Expect this car to surface at Frankfurt motor show in September 2011 with sales next fall.

yep, looks like a Audi test track of some sort, i think a Q7 variant is also visible out of focus in another shot, what i am starting to like is this global trend of masking cars with patterns and stuff, the patterns are so catchy and confusing to the eye, that it becomes really hard to see the cars lines - interesting approach. Much better than the overcoats that most manufacturers were using so far..

I see a promising front end in those headlamps. Hopefully the A6 can do an A4 for Audi.

Audi designers responsible for the exterior are probably the laziest in the world.
They come to office one day, goof around all day and then suddenly remember they have to design a CAR.So they just doodle new design of LEDs and slap it on the front of the car and go have that lunch

Interior designers however burn the midnight oil!

The front end might just resemble the A7 Sportback! This is getting plain boring now, especially with the A6.I think its high time Audi revamped their entire design philosophy. And what's up with the amusing Mitsu disguise?!

Bmw has been doing the same in all its models.. X3/5 3/5/6/7 all seem to have the same fascia with different moulds of body design and length. =(

I cant get myself to purchase one when there are no major physical differences within the same class of vehicles (sedan/suv) besides the cost factor.

WTB bangle :(

The goatee-grill has gotten exceedingly boring. Yes, it looked great half a decade back, but not any more. I think Audi should go back to designing a new front-end. Perhaps, something in the lines of the much loved A6 (C5) which was very understated, yet somehow, menacing!

It's possible to re-design and incorporate the split-grill and ditch the current single wide-mouthed front end. It will be interesting to see if they can pull it off albeit with more modern touches.
