Ya I meant the STi. Do have a look at the Jetta GLI(Petrol) it comes around $25k

Checkout the Mazda range of skyactiv engines. Mazda3 gives 40mpg, without the additional issues of batteries like in hybrids. They are a lot more cheaper than hybrids, a lot more fun, and holds value much better - in case your stint ends in 2015, and you need to sell your car. The new Mazda6 is simply incredible in its class. I am waiting for the diesel Mazda6

Guys,I have a question

Yesterday my friend's car was rear ended by a douche bag at a stop light.

We have filed with his insurance and they are willing to write a check for whatever price quote we get.

So my question is, do v need to get it fixed after we get the check or do it later say in 6mo time while pocketing the check?

The damage is not much, just paint peeled off.

Also if I get the check once the claim is processed, will this accident show up on carfax and vehicle history?

Anyway that we can get the claim and check but not show up on vehicle history?

Any help is appreciated.thanks

@ chevelle,

I believe once an insurance company writes a check, they'll have your friends car vin# on their records and if so, it'll probably show up on carfax etc. Would be different if, the offendor himself had written the check.

You can fix the car anytime you want. There is no time period in which it has to be done, as far as I know except, obviously within the validity period of the check. Make sure you check that. Institutional checks typically have a longer validity period than personal checks.

Your friend needn't have to deal with the other person's insurance company.

Your friend has collision coverage (right?). He should be dealing with his insurance company unless he has liability-only coverage. His insurance company will pay the body-shop directly on getting his car repaired, or write him a check to pay the body-shop.

His insurance company will sort out payment with the other guy's insurance company.

As far as the accident history is concerned - once an accident is reported, it will show up on the Carfax report.

I remember reading somewhere that you may be able to claim depreciated value due to accident from the other party's insurance company but I doubt it's valid for a fender-bender.

You have an option of either getting a check or paying the collision center directly thru insurance.
Again this depends if its just the two parties involved, then you will get the payment soon else insurance waits for release letters from all the parties involved.

OT: I knew a colleague who had a '99 altima in Chicago and somehow managed to get rear ended every year during winters, claim insurance and pocket the money.

Haha! That made me laugh. He must be having a weird shaped Car by now

On other note: I want to DIY remove couple of scratches on my car. I was Carrying Aluminium trays filled and had nowhere to keep it. So I ended up keeping it on top of my trunk and see all the scratches.

Any DIY/(with products) inputs welcome.

Was at MotoGP , Indianapolis last weekend with Bhpian Mpower.
Was amazing to see those machines roar past at 330 kph.
M power has a nice M3 too.

Did you manage to get any info on this this? I may need a solution as well.
Some gentleman has keyed my car's front and passenger doors and there are some superficial scraches on the bootlid as well.

That sucks.

Search for Junkman Detailing videos on youtube. I think wet sanding is what you would want.

Re: Buying, Owning, Driving and Maintaining a car in North America

This is about one of my colleague who has missed out paying in at few of the Chicago toll booths coz of insufficient change. He was driving a rental car. Now, he is apprehensive whether this would be considered traffic violations and reflected in his driving records or is it just the case of, paying the toll with some penalties?

What'd you mean - did he drive through automated toll booths or past manned booths?

If he drove through automated toll booths (eg. EZ Pass) then he'll get a bill with some service charge. He can call and tell the company what happened and they might waive the service charge - depending on who takes the call.

He drove through automated toll booths. How will they know to contact him? Would they have pictured the car and plate details? Is there anyway he can pay it now, like online transaction?

Can you elaborate on this? If the person is driving a rental car, will the toll invoice sent to him? Or will the rental company charge this from his credit card?

I'm also in the same situation. Rented a car during July 4 and did not pay the toll (I wasn't aware of the new system). I haven't received any toll invoice nor I see any money deducted by the rental agency.

One of my friend who passed the same toll in is personal vehicle received the toll invoice in this mail.

Is there a way to verify if my payment is pending?

Thank you!
