GM product development head Mark Reuss crashed a 2019 Corvette ZR1 he was using as a pace car at the Belle Isle course, ahead of the second round of the Detroit Grand Prix.

LOL, that's the ultimate embarrassment . Nothing worse than a car guy crashing his own car in front of a full audience. Can't imagine how he showed up at work the next day.

But it can happen to anyone. These RWD performance cars have rear ends that are very easy to lose. They can catch anyone out (just search YouTube). What's more, we usually see pace cars and think they are taking it easy. Nope, they are always driving on the limit so that the race cars behind can move at a decent pace & cool their engines + maintain heat in their tyres.

Even if traction control & other electronic safety systems are ON? For the lap, I guess he switched off all systems.

He obviously pulled rank on this one. Pace cars are driven by professional racing drivers not Executive VP's.

Pace cars give the illusion of not being driven fast because the race cars are much more faster and scream their way around the track. Even with the pace cars on the limit, F1 cars cannot go behind the pace car for more than 3-4 laps (yellow flag) without the engines getting heated.

There have been instances where F1 car engines have blown after being behind the pace car for about 3-4 laps and the race resumes.

A pair of Lamborghinis pulled into a gas station this weekend after previously participating in the Goldrush Rally. With both drivers inside of the gas station to purchase some water, a nearby minivan inadvertently started to drive off with the fuel pump hose still connected. In short order, the hose broke and the pump began spraying gasoline every which way, including onto the Lambo’s engine bay.

A “brand new” Lamborghini was totalled in a crash — just 20 minutes after being taken out of the showroom, UK police said. The unlucky driver behind the wheel of a black Lamborghini Huracan Spyder — which reportedly start at just under $265,000 for 2020 models — stopped due to a mechanical failure Wednesday on the M1 in West Yorkshire when it was struck from behind by an “innocent motorist,” West Yorkshire police tweeted.

It was in the "fast" lane when it packed up, if it was after a curve, it would have been difficult to bracken time, hence the term "innocent".
