Well, halfway around the world...

This is about perfect for vintage American iron ('65 Buick LeSabre):

Lexani CSS Concave Sport Series - on a BMW M3 V8

I think these were the "Empi" 8-spoke style very common and appealing back in the day (when tyres actually had sidewalls) on VW's, etc...

Buddy's Aston-Martin Vantage...Oh, my...

In some - eh - U.S. cities, you can take your pick from the streetside (no telling where these came from, tho')...

And if bigger is better, well in the ghetto they do like 'em big... (step aside, boys, these are 28-inchers!!!- on a massive early 1970's 7.5L V8 Oldsmobile):

Just thought some of you might enjoy some stuff from "the other side"...

Them 'ghetto' wheels cross into the extremely hideous side of things when it comes to wheels, I mean those tyres won't last 2000 miles, the suspension won't go much too further either

I still like a good ratio of rubber to alloy when it comes to it, I hate thin spokes as well.. I guess I'm one of the few who likes chunky, lesser spokes in the design.

Well, I certainly wouldn't put them on my own car... but most aftermarket wheels have nothing to do with practicality/performance, and to some degree "beauty is in the eye of the beholder". Personally I think it makes them look like toy cars with much smaller bodies than these massive full-sized cars (over two tons) really are - and maybe that's the idea... toys... But ugly, pretty, or "wretched excess" they make me smile whenever I see them.

BTW they'd last a lot longer than 2000mi (larger circumference = less rotations per km = less time on the pavement per sq.cm of rubber), and presumably similar rubber compound as other tyres)... unless of course they scrape the inner fenders (entirely likely). Whatever, DEFINITELY at the bottom of the scale when it comes to VFM.

For less, chunkier spokes and more rubber, check out the classics:

1. Cragar S/S - by far the most popular aftermarket wheel in North America throughout much of the 1970's/1980's... introduced in '64 and likely the best-selling wheel of all time...

2. Hurst (originals were 14" - now very rare/expensive), and one of its modern (18") copies (only those crazy Norte-Americanos know how to drive with no wheels on the ground).

3. Torque-Thrust D (magnesium - these too are a modern rendition of the original 14/15-inchers).

4. American racing Libres on BRE Datsun 510:

5. Or if you prefer, skip the spokes entirely (classic Centerlines - especially popular amongst drag-racers back in the day)...

I think all of these can look great in their rightful places.

Eric
