Does Nissan make any Micra in India for export markets, with direct injection petrol engines? AFAIK, the Indian Micra's petrol is a naturally aspirated one. And if Micra's diesel engine has a problem, even Mahindra Verito and Renault Pulse will need to be recalled!

It takes a lot of guts and confidence to admit there is something wrong with their own vehicles. Very often we see manufacturers blaming road conditions, driving habits, poor maintenance etc as the cause of a manufacturing defect and try every possible thing to keep it under wraps.

Kudos to manufacturers who have no qualms about recalling vehicles thus maintaining a goodwill for the longer term. This only increases the public's confidence intheir products

Good going for Nissan, at least they are recognizing the problem and taking adequate steps to make it painless for customers, this will only increase confidence on Nissan among its customers, unlike some other manufacturers who are either quietly changing the parts in the name of maintenance or letting customers suffer for sometime before they eventually come in and it gets replaced under warranty.

Was thinking on the same lines - let's see if and when Mahindra and Renault recall Logan/Verito and Pulse.

The K9K engine is co-developed by Renault and Nissan so ideally they should have announced it together.

Am expecting delivery for a Nissan Sunny with the same diesel engine... possibly it will be effected by this recall too.

Recalls have slowly started becoming a trend with the manufacturers I believe. Why can't they get it right the very first time? Are these manufacturers in such a hurry to beat the competition that they spend less time on R&D and proper testing? Or are manufacturers just pushing models in the name of advanced technology to customers to do the real world testing and then fix issues?? I believe, companies engaged in such recalls should be penalized heavily for having overlooked these glitches and increase the penalty for every subsequent recall they make in future than praising them for the recall efforts!

^^ I believe it can happen to the best of manufacturers. Even Bentley had ordered a recall several years ago regarding some wheel-nut issue. Toyota had ordered a spate of recalls over the last few years.

Of course, mechanical glitches are never intentionally done.

After all, manufacturers are run by people too and people can and do make mistakes. It's good that Nissan is addressing the problem now, unlike Skoda who seemed to not go that route, despite all the problems with the DSG 'box. Even Mahindra's XUV that has its share of niggles wasn't really recalled, was it?

Nissan makes Micras for export in India. There is a petrol Direct Injection Supercharged version as well. This recall could be for that.

Car maker Nissan is recalling more than two million cars due to a possible engine fault, the third largest recall ever.

Nissan has confirmed that although most models are being recalled in the US and japan - here nearly 84,000 of the K12 Nissan micra are affected.

All of the micras involved were made in Nissan's Sunderland factory between January 2004 and March 2006.

No accidents have been reported but anyone who believes they own one of the affected cars should take it to their dealer.

Dr Matthias Holweg from Judge Business School told the BBC the recall will prove expensive for Nissan.
