Toyota announces a recall of 2.17million cars in the U.S

Toyota has announced a recall of 2.17mn cars in the US over concerns of floor mat flaws which could lead in jamming of pedals. There are concerns that this is in continuation of the recall over unintended acceleration issue.

Are toyota owners facing a similar problem of shifting of floor mats?

This is really surprising! I wonder how a company like toyota could make such a mistake. Jamming of pedals is a serious issue. its good they aren't ignoring it.

This looks concerning, but i guess if they are accepting the fact that it is because of the mats. They will solve it quickly. That said if this issue was related to the past recall they would have mentioned it.

Indian spec cars are not affected by this recall.

Honda recalls 21,700 Civics in US, Canada

Reuters / Thursday, March 17, 2011 18:05 IST

Honda Motor Co is recalling about 21,700 of its current-model compact Honda Civic cars due to the possibility that fuel will leak in a roll-over crash, the company and US regulators said on Thursday.

"If a vehicle is involved in a roll-over crash, a cracked roll-over valve may allow fuel leakage from the gasoline tank into the evaporative emissions canister," Honda said in a statement.

"No crashes or injuries have been reported related to this defect."

More than 18,000 cars will be recalled in the United States and about more than 3,600 in Canada, the company said.
The fuel valve issue is related to cars built in the United States and in Canada, the company said.

Honda said that about 1 percent of the recalled 2011 model year vehicles are likely to have the problem. In a roll-over crash, a fire could occur, said the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Owners of the recalled vehicles will be informed by mail by mid-April, the company said.

Re: Honda recalls 21,700 Civics in US, Canada

Well that does seem like bad news.

I wonder if the factor of safety in case of the car rolling-over is considered as a parameter to deem a car "safe" by the ARAI.
I guess not, when even partially homolagated cars are allowed to run here. (e.g. the wipers of the Renault Logan)

Cheers and drive safe.

Hyundai Recall

SEOUL: South Korea's largest automaker, Hyundai Motor Co ., has recalled 190,000 cars with faulty airbags in the United States, a news agency report said Saturday.

Hyundai recalled 190,000 Elantra passenger cars sold between 2006 and 2008 in the US as they have defective airbag sensors, Yonhap news agency said.

The recall is expected to begin next month, it said.

Recall repairs will be provided at dealer service centres, it added.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

British car maker, Jaguar issued a recall earlier today which will affect 6,085 of their 2010 XF and XK customers. Problem with the power steering of these super sedans which were manufactured between 27 June 2009 and 10 March 2010, has forced Jaguar to issue a recall.

Powered by a 5.0L V8, both XF and XK were recalled earlier in 2010 too, over faulty fuel pump which resulted in misfiring of these supercars. This time, due to a zinc-nickel coating in the pipes that assist power steering, there are chances of leakage in near future as the coating does not meet corrosion protection standards set by Jaguar.
All the 6,085 cars that are affected were sold in the US and no injury has been resulted due to this power steering fault. Jaguar will start fixing these cars from 11th April by replacing the pipes for free.

This is the second Hyundai recall in 6 months, the previous one was of 139500 sonata in october 2010...this Korean giant runs with its tails between legs in th US and here in india, it's not even bothered. All complaints, feedbacks have fallen on deaf ears. Call in the NHTSA in India and see how soon HMIL addresses the steering rattle issue with its cars.

Honda Issues Second 2011 Odyssey Recall in Two Weeks

This week’s batch of automotive recalls kicks off with Honda addressing front window issues on a handful of 2011 Odyssey minivans — marking the minivan’s second recall in the past two weeks — while Volvo issues structural repairs for a seven — yes, seven — of 2011 S40 sedans.

2011 Honda Odyssey
The Problem: Some Odysseys were built with front windows manufactured with an incorrect primer fluid. As a result, holding clips designed to bind to the glass may separate, resulting in the window dropping into the window tract and potentially either binding or shattering within the door.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the window clips and replace the glass panes if necessary.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 2800 Honda Odyssey minivans produced between October 19th and October 27th 2010 are subject to this recall. Honda will begin notifying owners of affected vehicles in the first part of April. For further information, customers may contact the manufacturer by calling 1-800-999-1009.

2011 Volvo S40

The Problem: Thanks to the specific compound of metal used, the S40′s passenger side support member within the engine bay may have developed a slight crack. If so, the fracture could impact the vehicle’s crashworthiness.

The Fix: Dealers will inspect the suspected vehicles for the cracks and if the defect is found, the manufacturer will replace the vehicle with one of equal specifications free of charge.

Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: 13 vehicles sold in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico are involved in this recall, seven of which were shipped to the U.S. Volvo notes structures that didn’t crack during manufacturing will not fracture in real-world driving. Volvo will begin contacting customers in the coming weeks, but customers seeking further information can contact the automaker by calling its customer care line at 1-800-458-1552

It's FIAT Turn now

Fiat recalling 130,000 Puntos due to wiring issue

MILAN: Italian car maker Fiat is recalling around 130,000 Puntos in Europe due to a potential problem with wiring linked to its ABS braking system , a Fiat spokesman said on Thursday.

Fiat said that in some vehicles, the ABS wiring may have been incorrectly pinched to the battery. Vehicles were being recalled for checks.

"A possible incorrect assembly of the ABS-wiring could lead to a short circuit," read one of the letters sent to Grande Punto owners seen by Reuters.

"This could, in adverse circumstances, cause the vehicle to catch fire," said the letter, dated March 31.

The letter mentioned the Grande Punto and Punto Evo as possibly affected models.

Nearly half of the recalls would affect Italy , with the remaining spread across various European countries, the spokesman said.

Fiat produces around 350,000 Punto cars a year.

Fiat recalls 130,000 Puntos on brake problem

Thu Apr 14, 1:14 pm ET

MILAN (AFP) – Italian auto giant Fiat has recalled over 130,000 Fiat Puntos because of a possible problem with the anti-lock braking system that could cause a short circuit, a company spokesman said Thursday.

"The recall concerns over 130,000 vehicles including the Grande Punto, Punto Evo, Grande Punto Van and Punto Evo Van models." Fiat began sending out letters to affected owners at the beginning of February, the spokesman told AFP.

The autos were recalled after a problem with the anti-lock braking system was found in a vehicle, he said.

The Fiat spokesman said it was possible cables in the system may have been "pinched" during assembly and could "be damaged, provoking a short circuit."

Over half the vehicles are in Italy and the rest are in Europe, he added.

Thats a huge number
'Pinched during assembly'?? What the quality department was doing by that stage. AFAIK there should be "Line quality" department to assure the quality of assembly process, in each and every stage, if not atleast at the end of line or PDI who are supposed to check the inteference of certain important aggreagtes (safety related which includes brake lines & ABS wiring harness)

From the spokesman voice, it is an assembly issue.
I wish Fiat India had not made the same mistake of the parent country.

Also googled on the context and found no info on Indian products.
