Recall of 8,50,000 cars from Britain Roads Last Year

Hi,

"The Telegraph" has reported,

Quote:
Safety fears led to the recall of 8,50,000 cars from Britain roads last year. Though the car companies are adamant that recalls are not an indication of poor quality control and instead insist they show a commitment to safety.

New Figure shows that Japanese brands had maximum issues.
Complete Report

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring/...ins-roads.html

The report mentions that topping the chart was Honda Jazz with 1,71,394 cars recalled because of a fire risk that was identified on an electric window switch. This was followed by Nissan Micra with 1,42,097 cars recalled because of a loose steering bolt.

The report also mentions that the total recall in the year 2011 were 8,86,000, in the year 2012 were 8,43,000 and 2013 were 8,68,605.

Coming to think of India, we may not touch this number even if we start counting such recalls from pre-independence era. Though, we have seen a few recalls in the last few years.

I hope this car recall policy sees a fast track approval in India, as in our country most car safety aspects do not get the attention they deserve.

Re: Recall of 8,50,000 cars from Britain Roads Last Year

The figures show that how the quality and safety standards across the brands have fallen to a new low. Irrespective of the country; I believe more important is the fact that the mentioned brands enjoy a respectable market standing in India and with this specific report being posted here I am sure many of us will now be more cautious about the cars of these brand. I am a owner of a Honda and this report has educated me to keep a check on my car's wiring and switches.

thanks

5,000 Aston Martins Recalled Due to an Accelerator Pedal Defect.
Quote:

According to NHTSA, the problem is pretty serious and it appears that the guys from Aston Martin have encountered the exact pedal-arm weakness in models that have already been serviced. If the accelerator pedal arm breaks, the engine will return to idle and the driver will be unable to maintain or increase engine speed, increasing the risk of a crash

Aston Martin recall

I have always been a fan of Aston Martin. never owned one though. Came close to buying one once. Actually, the older models such as DB4 and 5 are gorgous but not that special to drive.

Just came across this:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england...shire-26058905

Can you imagine you have spent a boat load of money on your new Aston. Then you receive a recall letter from them due to a wonky plastic, counterfeit Chinese part. Good thing they own up to it though.

Honda Issues Third Consecutive Recall Over DCT on New Fit and Vezel Hybrids !

In the latest recall that affects 81,353 units of the new hybrid versions of the Fit hatchback and the Vezel crossover produced in Japan from July 2013 through February 2014, Honda said a glitch with the transmission software can cause a delay in the ability to begin driving or the inability to move at all.

The two previous recalls on the DCT's software (each due to a different cause) were conducted in October and December 2013.

A Reuters report confirms the misery of recalled Aston martin due to Chinese parts. Link to the report:

http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/0...A1A0AS20140211

Excerpts:

Quote:
Aston Martin's sweeping recall of its high-end sports cars last week raises larger questions about the risk to global automakers of sourcing key parts thousands of miles away in China without implementing adequate quality control measures.

Executives from several major foreign automakers said they either shun Chinese-owned suppliers or help them establish sound production processes and train workers to avoid quality problems.

And some traders in one of China's largest plastics supply hubs told a Reuters reporter during a recent visit that counterfeit plastic material of the kind found in an accelerator pedal supplied to Aston Martin was widespread as manufacturers face increasing cost pressures.

Chrysler Group is recalling 8k Ram ProMaster vans, built from 1 Jul 13 to 10 Dec 13, to address the potential for accelerator pedals to stick open in certain situations.

Quote:
According to the recall notice, if the van’s accelerator pedal is depressed at a certain angle, it may become stuck in the wide-open position due to interference with the accelerator pedal stopper. However, the notice pointed out that the vehicles are equipped with a brake override system. In the event a pedal is trapped, pressing on the brake pedal will slow the vehicle and give the driver a chance to shut down the engine.

GM recalls 778,562 compact cars in North America for ignition issue.

Quote:
General Motors said today it is recalling 778,562 older-model Chevrolet Cobalt and Pontiac G5 compact cars in North America to correct a condition that may allow the engine and other components, including airbags, to be unintentionally turned off.
In the affected cars from model years 2005 through 2007, the weight on the key ring, road conditions or some other jarring event may cause the ignition switch to move out of the run position, turning off the engine and most of the car's electrical components

Re: General Motors to recall 7,80,000 compacts cars

I've lost faith in GM now, first it was that issue with the tavera and now this, though recalls are not that rare but,780000 is too big a number to digest.
Get your game together GM.

Re: General Motors to recall 7,80,000 compacts cars

UPDATE

Quote:
GM said it knows of at least 22 accidents linked to the ignition switches in the nearly identical Cobalt and G5. The cars were discontinued years ago but still can be found as cheap used vehicles for low-budget shoppers.

GM says the switches may not have met its specifications.
Six people have died due to accidents caused by the faulty ignition switches in General Motors compacts, prompting the big automaker to recall 778,562 of its 2005-2007 Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5 compacts in North America.

Thanks

Re: General Motors to recall 7,80,000 compacts cars

GM is following the foot steps of Skoda or what? Why are such incidences coming up only to spoil their name in the market?!

I know recall's of such increase the brand value but after the Tavera issue, this has come and 7.8 lakh cars is a huge number to be lenient and 'chalta hai' types. There is something wrong with the parts manufacturer that GM has tied up with and GM's QC technique's are not good enough to handle such issues.

It is like GM is doing long term R&D using customers as guinea pigs.
