Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Volvo (one of most reliable car makers IMO) is recalling 8k+ 2014 S60, S80, XC60 & XC70 models for electrical niggles that can cause the headlights, wipers & other features to malfunction.

Quote:
On 2014 Volvo S60, S80, XC60 & XC70 models with keyless ignition, one of the main computers can essentially go berserk when the engine is started. Error messages for the alarm system & other functions may appear on the instrument panel, & the windshield wipers may switch on for no reason. The turn signals, high beams & cruise control may not work, the headlights may stay on low beams continuously, & the battery could drain. Volvo says owners may experience some or all of these problems at once.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Another major recall from Toyota involving 781000 Toyota & Lexus models to fix suspension issues that were not properly fixed 13 months earlier .

This is the second time that the same 780,584 cars have been recalled in the United States - the 2006-2011 Toyota RAV4 & the 2010 Lexus HS 250h - for loose nuts that attach the rear suspension arm to the wheels, that can rust & cause the entire arm to fracture or separate, which in turn can hamper the vehicle's alignment and cause it to leave the desired lane.

More details here:

Sarcasm:
...& we thought only Indian manufacturers could do this.

Honda to recall 405,000 vehicles over airbag system glitch.

Honda is recalling about 342,000 Odysseys from the 2003 and 2004 model years in the United States and Canada, as well as 63,400 Acura MDXs from 2003 model year in the United States, Canada, Japan and Australia.

A computer chip in the airbag control unit could malfunction when it receives electrical noise from other parts in the car.
As a result, driver and passenger seat airbags could deploy inadvertently.

BMW is recalling 134100 5-Series sedans in US for taillamps that may not work at all. The 2008-2010 5-Series, including M5s, have taillamps with bulb connections that can allow a higher electrical resistance & damage ground terminals & the bulb housing. The tail, brake, turn & reverse signals may then work only intermittently or fail entirely.

Nissan needs to recall approximately 500 off-roader of the Patrol series in Germany. Five models and 910,000 cars worldwide are affected.

Nissan calls in Germany back 530 vehicles Patrol series. A scrambled signal on the gas pedal sensor ensures that the off-roaders are slow or even stop and go. Then lit a warning light, then let the car start again, said a Nissan spokesman said on request of autobild.de. Patrol are affected from the production period 2006 to 2009.

Mazda recall covers 161k cars!

Mazda is recalling certain model year 2009-2013 Mazda6 vehicles manufactured February 4, 2008, through August 24, 2012. The door latch mounting screws may become loose.

CONSEQUENCE:
If all three door latch mounting screws become excessively loose the door latch mechanism would not engage and the door might open while the vehicle is in motion increasing the risk of accident or injury.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Recall or Not?

When is a recall not a recall? Recently a notice in the mail from Honda asking the registered owners of our 2014 Honda Odyssey test car, to bring it back to the dealership for service. In the eyes of most consumers, that looks like a recall.

Here is what Honda has to say,
On some 2013 Odyssey vehicles, the Odyssey emblem was incorrectly installed on the passenger’s side of the rear tailgate. The emblem should be installed on the drivers’ side of the rear tailgate. American Honda Motor Company highly recommends that you participate in this Product Update. The placement of the emblem may indicate that the vehicle has had repairs performed that are consistent with it being in a crash. This could affect the resale value of the vehicle.”

Chrysler is recalling nearly 141k vehicles over electrical woes.

The automaker is recalling 132,000 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokees, 91,559 of which are in the US. In addition to the Jeep recalls, Chrysler is adding 10,800 -2014 Ram 1500, 2500 and 3500 trucks to the list for similar problems.

Chrysler reportedly says, "Both events occurred infrequently and appeared to resolve themselves by tuning the vehicle's ignition off and then on."

Engineers discovered a problem with the anti-lock-braking system software that causes the instrument cluster display of the Grand Cherokee to illuminate warning lights and black out - even its ABS and electronic stability control systems are affected. To fix the Jeeps, Chrysler will update the vehicle's software.

NHTSA STOPPING RECALL NOTICES, SAFETY TESING amid US government shutdown.

On another Note:
The US government's shutdown may have an adverse effect on vehicle recalls and safety testing, according to a report from AOL Autos. Complaints can still be submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, but nothing will actually be done about any of these submissions or any ongoing investigations until the agency's funding returns, NHTSA said in a statement.
