Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Kia is recalling 25000 cars built between 2006 to 2011 in UK because of a potential fault with the brake light switch. These include previous-generation versions of the Carens, Sorento & Sportage, the current Sportage & Soul, & a small number of Optima models.

Due to this problem, the brake lights may not illuminate or may not turn off after the brake pedal is released.

For more details refer below link to Autoexpress-UK report:

Lotus Evora recalled because of a missing sticker;

The Global *Recalls* Thread-185041011219822.hl1.jpg

This has to be the most peculiar reasons in all recall history

Only 28 units affected as these cars had to come with a specific label indicating they were covered by the exemption of advanced airbag requirements on the passenger side, but some of them did not have that sticker.

In other words, they're recalling these cars just to be safe

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Chrysler defies the US government’s request to recall 2.7 mln Jeeps—not that it had much choice - all because it can't afford the cost of a recall, estimates of the recall would cost Chrysler around $300 million.

Chrysler has rejected the request from the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to recall 2.7 million Jeeps. It’s a highly unusual move:
The NHTSA had alleged that the fuel systems in 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokees and 2002-07 Jeep Liberty models are defective and pose a safety risk in rear-impact collisions. The NHTSA cited 22 collisions that resulted in fatal fires in Jeep Grand Cherokees, and five fatal accidents in the Jeep Liberty, in its request.

All eyes will be on the federal agency now. It has two options: Continue its inquiry, or try to force a recall.

MSN-US has reported that Chrysler is contesting NHTSA's findings, & here is the comment from the company:

Quote:
"We believe NHTSA’s initial conclusions are based on an incomplete analysis of the underlying data, and we are committed to continue working with the agency to resolve this disagreement"
.

Link to MSN-US report:

So the cost of recall is not the factor, as in being put to public.

Toyota says will recall 242,000 hybrids for brake design flaw. Please refer following link (courtesy HT) for details:

http://www.hindustantimes.com/Autos/...1-1071268.aspx

Quote:
The recalled vehicles could experience greater stopping distances when braking because of a mechanical design flaw in a brake part.
That part, the brake pressure accumulator, could crack with fatigue and release nitrogen gas into the brake fluid. However, no accidents, injuries or deaths have been reported as a result of the defect.

Chrysler recalls nearly 630,000 Jeeps to fix transmissions, airbags, seat belts.

Quote:
Chrysler Group said today it will recall more than 220,000 units of the Jeep Wrangler to fix a transmission flaw and 409,000 units of the Jeep Compass and Patriot worldwide to fix a software glitch that could stop airbags and seat belts from working in a crash
Quote:
Jeep's go-anywhere Wrangler also faces a separate recall due to power steering fluid lines that can possibly wear a hole in the transmission oil cooler line. According to Chrysler, the vehicles could then leak fluid, possibly damaging the transmissions. Roughly 221,100 Wrangler models are being recalled because of this issue, all of which are fitted with Jeep's 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine. In the US, 181,000 vehicles are affected, with an additional 18,400 in Canada and 21,700 additional units worldwide

GM recalls certain 2013 Cadillac ATS and model year 2013 Cadillac XTS; and model year 2014 Chevrolet Impala vehicles.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

US government is investigating 2 models from Honda & GM

US government is investigating 2003-2004 Honda Odyssey models for front airbags deployment without warning or crash, after NHTSA received of 6 complaints from owners of these vehicles. The agency has also received 41 additional complaints regarding illuminating air bag warning lights on the people carrier.

In addition to Honda, GM has sent more than 1100 reports of brake light malfunctions on the 2005-2008 Pontiac G6 to NHTSA. The complaints, apart from another 314 sent directly to NHTSA, allege that the light operation was reversed, i.e. the brake lights illuminated when the brake pedal wasn't depressed and switched back off when the pedal was depressed.

It seems that the car has more problems as other complaints show that some G6 models were difficult to shift from the park position & the cruise control system did not function properly. GM also reported more than 14,000 related warranty claims regarding the brake lights. If this leads to recall about 551,511 cars may be affected.

For more on these (potential recalls) please refer below link:

http://editorial.autos.msn.com/blogs...y-brake-lights

An important point to note here is that NHTSA investigations often lead to recalls, but, this is not always the case. No recall is official until the manufacturer announces it formally to the agency.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Coda Automotive is recalling all 117 of its electric sedans for side curtain airbags replacement, as the driver's side curtain airbag did not deploy properly during an NHTSA side crash test because the airbag supplier "incorrectly rolled the airbag during production". The fixed vehicle eventually received the government's top rating of five stars for a side crash. However, the car scored a 2-Star rating for frontal crash, the lowest of any new car in US.
