Toyota Motor Corporation has recalled 7.43 million vehicles worldwide to fix a unintended acceleration problem in some of its vehicles.

The company also reached an agreement worth more than $1 billion to settle a lawsuit involving the same.

Quote:
Under the proposed settlement, Toyota will offer special vehicle coverage for up to 150,000 miles on 16.3 million vehicles and will retrofit as many as 2.7 million vehicles with brake override systems, the statement said.

The special coverage will be for Engine Control Module, Cruise Control Switch, Accelerator Pedal Assembly, Stop Lamp Switch, and Throttle Body Assembly, it said.

Toyota will also spend $30 million to fund automobile safety research and education related to issues in the suits.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

The 2013 recall-wagon commenced with Honda recalling 748000 vehicles (Pilot SUV & Odyssey Van models) in US in the beginning of 3rd week of Jan-13.

Problem - Missing rivets that secure the airbag covers, which could cause the airbag to "not deploy properly."

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

Toyota is recalling sixteen models from the 2009 to 2013 model years over a potential issue with passenger seat airbag calibration. In spite of the large number of different Toyotas covered by the recall, just 3,235 units are included. These were vehicles installed with accessories like leather seat covers and headrest DVD systems by Southeast Toyota Distributors, and during the modifications the passenger seat occupant sensor system might not have been calibration tested. If the sensors aren't set up properly, the passenger airbag might not work as it should.

Affected models include: Avalon, Camry, Camry Hybrid, Corolla, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Prius, Prius V, Rav4, Sequoia, Sienna, Tacoma, Tundra and Venza.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

BMW recall

Summary:
BMW is recalling certain model year 2011 1-Series ActiveE passenger vehicles manufactured August 17, 2011, through December, 19, 2011. Due to an insufficient sealing of the drivetrain housing assembly there may be a lack of grease lubrication on the gear shaft that transfers power from the electric motor to the transmission.

CONSEQUENCE:
Over time, the connection between the electric motor and the transmission may wear, possibly resulting in a sudden loss of vehicle propulsion. This could increase the risk of a vehicle crash.

REMEDY:
BMW will notify owners by telephone, and dealers will inspect the drivetrain connection and update the sealing system. Any worn electric motor gearing will be replaced. The recall is expected to begin in January 2013.

Toyota recalls again!

The recall bug strikes Toyota again. The automaker has issued a voluntary recall of three models that, in total, represent more than one million units. Around 752,000 2003-2004 Toyota Corolla and Matrix models are being recalled for airbag concerns, while a windshield wiper issue is causing the recall for close to 270,000 Lexus IS sedans from the 2006-2012 model years.

Re: The Global *Recalls* Thread

GM recalling nearly 4000 vehicles over airbag concerns!

SUMMARY:
General Motors is recalling certain model year 2012 Chevrolet Camaro, Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Sonic vehicles. The driver side frontal air bag has a shorting bar which may intermittently contact the air bag terminals.

CONSEQUENCE:
If the bar and terminals are contacting each other at the time of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, that airbag will not deploy, increasing the driver's risk of injury.

Thanks @volkman10

There are another 8519 cars recalled by GM for loose bolts in suspension of 2013 Chevy Malibu cars.

Add to this another 360 2011 ActiveE electric cars recalled by BMW due to a "lack of grease lubrication" on the gear shaft that connects the electric motor to the transmission, & the dry shaft could wear out & cut the car's power.
