First spy shots: all new 2012 Mercedes SL

The SL currently sold in India dates back to 2001 and has had a minor facelift in 2006, and a major facelift in 2008, which is currently on sale here.

But in 2012, an all new SL is being readied to replace the current one, as indicated by these spy shots, courtesy BP and Co., and Leftlane – news, reviews, and info for the auto-industry.

OMG. The Drool effect. Sigh! Sigh!. How I wish I get my hands on her. By the way, the first picture and third picture, there is a center "hole" like thing. I first thought it as big logo but the third picture is suggesting otherwise.

I am possibly ignorant on this, but is that an picture illusion ?

Oh, good catch! I guess the tail light styling will be similar to that of the upcoming CLS!

Here are some more spy shots! The front grille borrows design cues from the SLS AMG while the rear looks very CLS!

i cant differenciate it from the current one , leave alone the rear.
merc people are playing too safe now a days after watching how far bmw has streched its design philosophy. should have done something some radical ! look at new E350 even , just too safe !

quattroa4, this car will really be different from the current one, you need to understand this is a early stage development vehicle which means a lot of panels used could be from the previous gen car, wait for it the SL will never disappoint.

And about E class being safe? I atchually think it is very radical, I mean I still cannot digest it as a Mercedes-Benz with all those lines all over it, While it is an awesome car design wise it has some seriously tough competition from the F10 BMW which I think is a very safe car

I think it is the same greenhouse and platform - MB has anyway done a lot (tech wise and design as well) on the current platform thus doing away with the need for a complete ground up platform for at least a decade. Much like what they did in the late 60 to 80's. I reckon she has all new skin and interior pointing towards new design philosphy. You see the same being done with CLS which is the same old car underneath platfrom wise. Nothing wrong with it really if you ask me but facts be known
