lovely post DKG. I couldnt agree more!

Yes the Italians are able like no one else to infuse the sheer power of their love and passion as well as their nonpareil sense of beauty and aesthetics into their design/ product - right from a simple silk tie, to a hand-crafted pair of leather shoes, a marble sculpture, an oil painting or any other objet d'art.

Of course the world of cars and automobiles benefits deeply from this trait too. Love being the strongest emotion, it extends to their food, the sheer beauty of presentation, their wines, their ebullient, exuberant passionate and voluble natures. In short practically just about anything there!

Their cars "call out to the inner emotional soul" - quite unlike those technically perfect but dead boring Lexus's and so on.

The Heart clearly rules over the Head in Italy and long may it continue!

I love Italy - wherever you go there is something beautiful to appreciate and certainly not the least being the people, their casual elegance, sense of sartorial style and effortless chic! Even the Polizia/ Carabinieri for heaven's sake are so stylish that I feel like a large lumpy clod of earth standing next to one of them!

There's so much passion in the workers. But I don't know how it manifests in product design.

WOW .. lots of beauties here, and many of my favorites too, but one car which totally stands out in the crowd with all those cars is DeLorean DMC-12 . and to my surprise it is still made today on order and i wish to own one .

Stainless steel body panels. Gullwing doors. Leather interior. Rear engine, all aluminum V-6. Timeless design.

My shortlist : Timelessness, continued; the Audi Sportback Concept

Lads,

One car that has caught my attention due to its

>clean lines
> depth of detailing
> general finesse
> simplicity of ( and therefore, timelessness of ) design

is the Audi Sportback Concept unveiled earlier overseas and unveiled for Indian audiences in the Indian Auto Show in New Delhi, this month.

Although a concept and not a production car yet, I am taking the liberty of including it here, although technically it may not qualify to be here; it is heard that this might become the Audi A7, an Audi interpretation of a gran turismo.

Enjoy the pictures.

Regards

Oh, come on issigonis. How can you post that in the "most beautiful car ever" thread?

@ Sujaylahiri : Great choice in the Dodge Charger. I've seen some pretty nice tricked out examples in person. They ooze character like no other.

Monteverdi 375L

My choice of the most beautiful automobile is the rare and elegant Monteverdi 375L from Switzerland.

Unveiled at the 1967 Frankfurt Motor Show, the car was the brainchild of Swiss Enterpreneur Peter Monteverdi. A dealer of high-end imported cars in Switzerland (including Ferrari), Peter was also an amateur racer and a great fan of GT cars. He had a disagreement with Enzo Ferrari which closed the Ferrari dealership for him. This was when he hatched the plan of a powerful, elegant GT car that would rival the Jensen Interceptor and Ferrari 330GT.

The clean, elegant design of the car was from Frua. The engine was the Chrysler 440 cu in (7206cc) V8 which came mated to a 4 speed manual or 3 speed automatic. Power output was 375 Bhp, hence the name.

The original prototype shown at Frankfurt was a 2 seater. However, by the time the production car was unveiled, it had grown in size into a full 2+2.

The car was well received by the world press. Here was a well-engineered GT capable of 0-100 kmph in 6 secs and a top speed around 250 kmph. The car's only problem was the stratospheric sticker price of GBP 10K, which made it twice as expensive as a Jensen Intercepter and 4 times that of an E-Type!

Great choice! But I'd rather pick the timeless Khamsin over the Monteverdi!

Yeah I've always been a big fan of them. I think it embodies the ultimate car for the bad boys, though mostly romanticized by the movies.
