Prototype design that Audi never mass produced

This is probably a one-off prototype from the design portfolio of Hungarian designer Paul Jaray who was born in Austria.

Jaray worked at Luftschiffbau Zeppelin (LZ).

He learned streamlining principles for car designs through aerodynamics experiments at LZ.

In 1927, Jaray founded a streamlined car bodywork company at Brunnen, Switzerland. It was called Stromlinien Karosserie Gesellschaft (SKG).

He presented numerous designs to Chrysler, Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, Apollo, Dixi, Audi, Adler, Jawa, Ford, Steyr, etc. But most of SKG's work was licensed to Tatra, Czechoslovakia.

Jaray's own personal use car was built on a 1933 Mercedes-Benz chassis with a body built by Huber and Bruehwiler of Lucerne.

This might just be one of those designs that were never mass-produced.

The Team-BHP Official Guess the car Thread is not for one-offs and prototypes.

Re: Official Guess the car Thread (Please see rules on first page!)

The Russian heritage is amply evident on this one.

Would I be right in saying this is the Soviet built car called the Invalidka a.k.a SZD motorcycle-car, which was designed specially for the handicapped citizens who couldn't use their feet ?

The car was designed to be driven completely by hands (no controls in the feet). It was propelled by a 350 cc 2-stroke motorcycle engine.

I also know now that these cars were never 'sold'. Instead, the Soviet government free-leased these vehicles for a 5 year period to qualifying citizens.

It is the Wallys IZIS. It is the first car entirely built in Tunisia. With the exception of the engine, manufactured by Peugeot, the car was not only made in Tunisia, but used Tunisian made car parts (cables, body, joints, chassis, and mechanical parts). The manpower behind its building is also 100% Tunisian.

The “Wallys Izis” is a 3.25 m long, plastic panelled car with a 75 horse power Peugeot 1.4 litre petrol engine. The engine is Euro 4 compliant and has a NCAP rating. It is ideal for off road leisure activities and boasts a 39 degree angle in climbing mode. Moreover, the car’s steel chassis has a 14 year anti- corrosion guarantee and its plastic body a lifetime guarantee. An electric version is available with a 90 km range.

The car comes at a price of 10,000 Euros (about 18,000 dinars) and its inventor hopes that the car will meet with similar enthusiasm from the Tunisian public during the forthcoming Tunis car show, next June, when a four door version of the off-roader will be presented to the public.

I tried to find similar images but no luck - all the images I found were pretty different. Can you share some more details? Its a very attractive car, and with a distinct Studebaker face for the era.

Karl :
It's actually a 1938 Jawa Minor 1 from Czechoslovakia.
They obtained a license from DKW to build cars with DKW mechanicals.

DevilsDoggie: Its, as Ram said, a 1938. Which makes it a Minor roadster and not an Aero Minor. The Aero Minor began production in the mid-40s, if I'm right.

Cheers,
Rahul

This beautiful car is most probably the British built Daimler Dart, re-badged as Diamler SP250 after Dodge cried hue over it's trademarked 'Dart' name.
