A bunch of useless hints

It is a tough one alright. As a matter of fact, it’s so rare that I only discovered it a few hours ago myself.

As for hints… hmm, I can provide you with some general info which I don’t think you’ll find terribly useful. The fiberglass body was designed by an apparently renowned stylist (renowned within that particular country, that is) but I’m, er, having trouble tracking him down. It sat on a tubular steel frame, and (unsurprisingly) shared pretty much every mechanical component with a popular production model. I trust you can guess where the engine was located.

It was made throughout the 60s (with newer versions sporting minor styling differences, such as the taillight design) but that should be quite apparent as well.

I’m afraid that’s all I can (or am willing to) give you for the time being.

In case you’re wondering why the photo looks a bit messy, my apologies, but I just don’t feel like having some joker run it through Google’s image-recognition algorithm in order to arrive at the answer in seconds. Good luck.

Here's the answer:

KD 1963-1969
This is the first home-made car built by Soviet do-it-himselfers in series.
The engine, transmission and suspension are taken from the ZAZ-965A.
In total, only 6 cars were built.

A great find indeed!!

Excellent work, sir! I’ll only add that the designer’s name was Edward Molchanov (Эдуард Молчанов), and that you can find some more model-specific info and drawings here (it’s in Russian but I’m sure that Google Translate can work wonders these days). If you ask me, this is what the official production version of the ZAZ should’ve looked like.

Thank you. I came across the 2011 Oldtimer-Gallery exhibition (which is a veritable goldmine gathering a bunch of rare Russian models, such as the ‘wedge estate’ Pangolina or the quintessentially 80s-looking Laura) thanks to my efforts to track down Oleg Nagorny’s fabulous replica of the 1940 Alfa Romeo 6C 2500 SS originally built by Stabilimenti Farina according to a Mario Revelli design, which was displayed there in 2010. It’s a fantastically proportioned notchback coupé – a genuine rarity for the era and a feast for the eyes to boot.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the site I linked to refers to the KD as the 'Sport-900' for some reason.

Re: Official Guess the car Thread (Please see rules on first page!)

DevilsDoggie you should have numbered it ID:937.

ID:937
is a SsangYong Rodius SV270 XDI 7-seater

Name: SsangyongRodiusSV270XDI.jpg

I found it an unusual ugly taxi to ride in. Seats can be folded to act as tables or double folded for extra cargo area. They can be turned around for conversation and can slide forward and backward. The engine is a Mercedes-Benz licenced 2.7L 5-cylinder common-rail diesel putting out 162 bhp and 342 Newton-metre.
I took this photo two and a half months ago at 1.2920795N, 103.8491946E.

Looks like Ssangyong Rodius SV270 MPV. Quite common here in Singapore (taxi fleet)

It's SsangYong not SangYong.
And SsangYong calls it the Rodius, worldwide.
Only in Malaysia and Australia is it called the Stavic.

I think you didn't read my reply properly. I agreed it is Stavic/rodius (maybe called by different nomenclature (name) in Singapore) . The model that I have posted here is Stavic!

Cheers!
