ID 498 looks like a Delahaye to me. Not sure of the model though.

ID:512; 1908 Brush runabout

ID:512 is a 1908 Brush runabout.

It was driven by a single-cylinder 6 bhp engine through friction drive transmission. In 1910 the engine was upped to 10 bhp.

The Brush was characterized by a wooden chassis (actually wooden rails and iron cross-members) and "underslung" coil springs in tension instead of compression -- i.e. the bottom of the coil spring was fixed to the chassis and the wooden axle (seen in the picture) pushed a spindle that pulled the top of the coil spring upwards.

An Australian adventurer, Francis Edwin Birtles (1881-1941), became the first person to make a pan-Australia crossing from Fremantle, Australia to Sydney in a 1910 Brush Runabout.

Says volumes about the wooden chassis and axles, doesn't it?

OT: We lived in Kingston in upstate New York in 1988 and 1989, and ten miles from my home on the other bank of the river Hudson, in Red Hook, was the old Rhinebeck aerodrome. It was home to a bunch of 1st world war aircraft and cars, including this particular light blue Brush runabout. There was a ten-minute summer ride in a WW1 biplane replica for a small ticket. My then kindergartener Aniruddh (Intrepid) blocked me from taking that ride saying, "Pappa, you may get died or something".

Another unique feature of this car is the anticlockwise turning engine. Back then, cars were started by a hand-crank. Having it turn anticlockwise, was a safety measure to ensure the starting handle did not break your thumb, if the engine were to backfire.

The founder of the Brush Runabout Company (1907-1913), Alanson Brush was designer of the very first Cadillac, which he also gave, an anticlockwise turning engine.

Mr. Brush called the coil springs, "spiral springs". The soft suspension allowed him to use solid rubber tires rather than pneumatic tires that were rather troublesome in the early part of the century.

It had a 50.3 cc 6 bhp engine. Humorists joked, "Wooden frame, wooden wheels, would'nt run!".

In 1912, Mr. Brush shut his company and took up employment in the newly formed Chevrolet Motor Company.

Earlier Matra used to build fibre-glass bodies for the beautiful and successful Le Mans Bonnet D'Jet.

In the mid-1960s Matra Aerospace acquired the René Bonnet company.
The merged entity was called Matra Sports.

In 1967, the D'Jet was replaced with this Matra M530 mid-engined fibreglass sports car. The engine was the 1700 cc 85 bhp Ford V4 engine from the Taunus 17M.

If im not mistaken, the Matra MX 530LX has featured on this thread a while ago!!
I wonder if we could devise a system to know if the car has been featured earlier.

Hmmm, I have a statement of innocence to make. I had honestly no memory of it. But after you mentioned it, Gogi, I looked it up and found it had been put up by Karl Bhote in September last year. Post# 1382.

And again it was me that had identified it.

This time not a single soul recognized Ishaan's white car right away, not even me. So nobody commented that it had indeed been identified before.

As such, I went through the identification exercise all over again from scratch. If you notice the data provided is completely fresh.

Ram

PS: It only goes to show that very few people read through all the posts. And also that your memory beats all of us.
