Over to you Ram, please elaborate
Gogi, even i had seen a Cream coloured Consul at the Solanki's at Forjet street in the 90's. It was for sale at that time and the asking rate was sumthin like 22 grand. The car was not in that good condition, the flooring was rusted and suspensions needed to be workd on.I didnt buy it that time as i was on the lookout for a Morris Minor. I think he was ready to give it for 18 grand. cant remember that well as to what was his final offer. Now i regret my decision that i didnt pick it up.

Not unlike the fable of the hare and the tortoise, I thought I'd come back from lunch and yap about the Olds Starfire. But speedy and V-16 crossed the finish line while I gorged on saag and chapatis on our 7th floor terrace cafeteria watching Sukhois take off and land!

Can't mistake the 1962 Olds Starfire's wide brushed aluminum panel running the full length of the body, twin oval tail-lights and the very specific 3-segment pizza hubcaps.

Leather interior and chrome-trimmed bucket seats with brushed aluminum center-console were standard equipment on the Olds. Even the carpets had chrome wear-strips!

Note the single large speaker in the centre of the rear seat (Guys there was no stereophonic sound in 1962).

Until 1962, Starfire was only a convertible (named after the Lockheed Starfire). It was joined in 1962 by a hardtop as well.

It had a 394 cu.in [6,457 cc] V-8 that put out 345 bhp@4600 rpm and 440 lb-ft of torque @ 2800 rpm, breathing in through a multijet 4-barrel carburettor and out through twin exhausts. The motor was mated to a strong four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, strong enough to tow a boat-trailer. Even in 1962, features like two-speed electric wipers and tachometer came standard on the Starfire.

This car had power everything! -- meaning rotomatic power steering, power brakes, power front seats, power windows, even power vent windows in the front quarter panel !

The pic of the black convertible doesn't show the Starfire's dual exhaust -- something folks in 1962 went gaga over.

'M' (MSR) registration belongs to Karnataka (Mysore) State. Madras city had something starting with 'T'.
