old tax rates for new cars in Bangladesh

Hey GTO, great to be onboard. U'll find the duty rates of new cars on the link above. Those were the previous duty rates prior this years budget. The government at our end have slapped an additional 30% subsidery on used cars since then(anything above 1600cc). We also have a ban on anything older than three years coming in our country, however there are a few shady ways to get around this.

And this is an example of what we have to incurr on a used car import. The assessment of a 99'Mercedes benz c180 AvantGarde with 20K on the clock.

Value of the used car @ 16,86,294.69; assessment by Bangladeshi Customs..done in 2002:

Type: Tax Base Rate: Tax Amount:
CD 16,86,294.69 32.5% 5,48,045.77
SD 20% 4,46,868.09
VAT 15% 4,02,181.28
AIT 3.5% 59,020.31
LF - -
IDSC 3% 50,588.84
DFVAT .045% 759.00

TOTAL 15,07,463.29

Price of the reconditioned car including tax:
16,86,294.69 + 15,07,463.29 = 31,93,757.98

The same car brand new from the authorised Merc dealer in Dhaka was weighed at around 52 Lacs BDT

i hope this'll give you some insight of what we have to shell out to own our cars. ps. mind letting me know what are the legal procedures in India.

cheers
