2011 Porsche 998 Spyshots.

I came across this. IMO, this is not the 2009 version and its next version, so started a new thread.

Time flies when you are driving a Porsche 911. So fast it flies that you forget there is a next-generation one coming up right around the corner. The next 911, dubbed 998, has been spied prancing around in heavy test mule camo. This car is due out in the year 2011, which is really right around the corner, if you drive a 911.

Spied vehicle is probably not a Turbo since those side air-intake vents are fake, and so is the big rear spoiler. What will not be fake however are those flat-six boxer engines we associate with Porsche so well, turbo power of course, names like GT3 and GT2, as well as PDK. PDK is the new 7-speed double-clutch gearbox employed by Porsche in its new cars.

Porsche is clearly not sitting on its laurels; they are getting on with the business of making cars.

It isnt the 998!! It is just a 911 which put on weight around the bum!

On a serious note, the rear looks very disproportionate. Doesnt look good at all. Of course, we should wait to see how it looks without the camouflage.

Looks like a cross between the 911 and KITT from Knight Rider.

Hopefully it'll look good without the camo.

Can't be an all new 911; the 997 has been around for only like 3 odd years. A facelift is expected in the near future.

I think the 997 porsche 911 has already had a facelift .. The PDK version has sharper, angular LED tail lights, and a few other changes..

That rear will look similar to all current Porsches with a spoilet (like the Turbo). You can tell that its not a flat back bulge...only the covering looks flat and bulbous.

As JC puts it, Porsche has the laziest design studio on Earth. Front look exactly same as current 911

Even though Porsche just recently introduced the new 911 GT3 RS and 911 Turbo, they have been testing the next generation 911(998) for a while.
- Next-generation 911 looks to be longer, offering more rear seat space than the current one.
- We also get to see almost undisguised front and rear lights.
- On keen observation, one can see that the design of the headlights aren't the same.
- Headlights are more upright reminding us a good old 993.
- The huge rear spoiler is fake, hiding the final look of the car.
- Side mirrors on the prototype are moved to the side of the door, which could be a temporary move.
- It is quite obvious that the new 911 will more fuel efficient and of course will pack more power than the current 911(997), official debut is expected to take place sometimes in 2011 and it will include all the variants from Convertible to a hardcore GT3 RS.

Good job with the camo,in the last few pics. The boot segment might look quite different when the final car's revealed.Hence the boxy camo on the boot's lid.

A new set of pictures.

Source : Porsche 991 Latest Winter Test Spy Photos - Rear LEDs in View

Our spies have snapped new pictures of the redesigned Porsche 911 (codenamed 991 or 998) undergoing cold weather testing in Sweden.

While it's still heavily camouflaged, we can see new details about the 911's LED taillights. Overall, the shape is similar to the one used on the current model (997.5), but the turn signal elements appear wider.

As we have previously reported, the next-generation 911 will feature an evolutionary design theme with minor styling tweaks. Changes include streamlined headlights, Panamera-style door mirrors, a revised rear windshield wiper, and wider rear wheel haunches. The 2011 model may also be a tad longer than the 997.

Engine options will likely carryover with minor modifications, and they will be connected to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. Like the current 911, rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive variants will be available.

the rear was looking absolutely horrendous, until i realized that they have put that box kind of a thing to conceal the original shape.

i know its 40 odd years old, but i get excited every time there is a new 911 around the corner

I hope Porsche never phase out the original 911!
