GTO can you shed some light on the difference between 108 & 109? Are there many in India?

Evolution of E class

This is a very informative thread. The evolution of the E class is well explained by V12 in an earlier post. I am adding the pics I took at the MB museum in Stuttgart last year, of the special exhibition that they had celebrating the launch of the new E class (W212).

All the beauties lined up.

All the E's under one roof, within the MB museum.

There was also a drive session which had most of the E classes participating.

A quick question , why the M-B corporation selected the alphabet "W" in their model naming system , is that because of it refers to "Wagen/wagon" ?

Interesting how classic Mercs like the W111, W123, W124 etc. still look so classy....several decades after introduction, but the W201 (a rubbish E Class IMO) already seems outdated. I think Mercedes got the W211 spot on, a timeless design, but the current W212 is hardly evergreen. It'll be out of fashion soon.

Classic Mercs rock!

I believe so though, even their first F1 race car had a "W" nomenclature.

Re: Evolution and History of Mercedes models over years - C, E, S and SL Class and more

Quality-wise, the W220 is indisputably the worst S-Class to ever be made (thanks to that idiot, Jürgen Schrempp), but by God, it is one timeless sedan. Was watching a movie last night (Concussion) in which Will Smith drives a W220. Looks stunning, even 2 decades since launch.

IMHO, the W220 doesn't look outdated even today, which is incredible when you consider Mercedes probably started designing it in 1994 - 95! I had come very close to buying one a decade ago:

This has been my favourite S-class, infact one of the compelling reasons for getting the C180 back in 2001 was that it was a "baby S"
It's taken 15 years to go from the Baby S to the S. Started from the bottom now we here

However, what really wooed me back in the early 2000s was the CL. God damn, there is no car that can carry the SEXY tag better than the C215 CL to date.

Congrats on your success . I would love to own an S-Class, but I think I'll hold it till I'm 50 or 60 (just got into my 40s).

Wow, you really have a thing for coupes, huh (hinting toward your RS5)? My next buy will most likely be a coupe too (I don't like open sports cars).

Was that a typo? You probably meant W210, the moon-eyed stupidity.

Because W201 is the 190E and happens to remain one of the last of the iconic Benz's!!

What better can it get? If only there was a time machine and we could go back to this era!!
