What do you think of the successor for the beautiful 456? Personaly, I feel the styling is a little messy, incorporating the rear of the 550 and trying too hard to be nostalgic with the front.

Can't fault the interiors though, which is a definate improvement in space and looks.

I am not too big on the front design of the 612, but am in love with the side profile. Looks like an Italian muscle car...and very un-Ferrarish

No duobt the 612 is very powerful sporting a detuned Enzo engine . Its not bad looking but the 456 was certainly better. I really miss those pop ups. But the interiors however are sweet .

Over all I think the 456 was better

Cheers

I think it's pretty good.
Front styling isn't exactly great, but the side on view is nice and the rear is good too. The interiors are fantastic.
Pop-ups have almost completely disappeared from the automotive world.
Apart from the front styling, I think this is a better car than the 456.

The side view looks the best. I wonder why pop-ups are disappearing. Cant they decrease weight elsewhere . I just hope the new 360 doesnt get the same or similar headlight treatment like the 612.
BTW, dont u guys think the rear of all Ferraris is the same and is a bit boring??

V12,
If i had to guess i would put these as the reasons as to why they didnt put pop-ups on this car (in order of importance)-
1. 360/enzo/550/575 dont have popups...so they have to keep this part of the new ferrari family (and they might think popups look a bit dated)
2. Mechanical problems! Pop up lights just have the WORST tendency of getting stuck up or down...or even worse one up and one down.....maybe the 456 had some such problems and the original owners got irritated with it?
3. as you said, weight reduction.

Thats my opinion on why i think it is the way it is..... but even i would have prefered popups

pop-ups also play hell with the aerodynamics when they're raised. Add to wind noise, weight and look kinda ugly, IMO, when they are up.

Still, cars like the Miata, 355, etc. look beautiful with them. The fixed light miata doesn't have that appeal.

True true,,, i guess when i see a 355 with open pop ups it looks like a totally different animal.....much more agressive and on the prowl... it probably does look uglier ....but i dont think that even occurs to me because i know i can just have the "beauty" back at the flip of a switch.
Plus the aux lights on the 355 are more than powerful enough for city driving... (never seen bhushan with the popups on.....and have got blinded while lookin at his foggies! ;-]

I agree with you Rehaan. The foggies of the 355 are powerful enough. I even remember Aditya telling me once when Jeh Wadias 348 was parked in his compound , one pop up was up and the other in hehehe

They maybe bad for areodynamics but I've grown up seeing my favourite sports and exotic cars having pop up lights. I even used to think it was very unique. I remember my school teacher in Dubai having a Prelude with popups. I once had a Mazda 929 with popups. Other cars which fancied me with popups were the Pontiac Firebird Trans am, Corvette , the old Ferraris, the Diablo, Esprit etc... I even loved the lights of the XJ220.

Somehow I miss them

Cheers

The primary reason pop-ups are out is the design and appeal factor. Pop-up headlights are considered as 80's as the flashy tail fins are part of the end-50's. They just arent considered contemporary anymore.

Also, non-popups can be designed to be much longer and bigger in size than the limited dimensions that pop-ups can accomodate - Result? Significantly better illumination.

GM has spoken the same language in their defense of launching the first ever corvette without pop-up headlights.....The C6!

Me too, well not just on Ferraris but even in general..
Was just wondering which new production cars have them?
Any one have an Idea? Last I remember were prominent in RX-7 and Lotus Esprit, just cant recall anymore (at the moment) any one with an Idea?

Well the 612 Scaglietti, I feel is a worty successor 456. I agree with GTO it is pretty UnFerrarish! But its just more refined and user friendly than the most Ferraris, yet as fast as any other Ferrari.

i think thats the pops up r a little too old fashiioned. i mean after all the were a rage back in the days. the scaglietti looks good in all directions. although the front and the back could have been made a little more aggresive...
anyways its definetely a worthy sucessor. man the interiors r a beauty..just look the comtoured seats and the steering wheel that just entices u to race this beauty to hair raising speeds! would love to sell my house to get one of these!!!!1

Hey,

well i just saw the 612 in person today
DEFINITELY looks better than in the pics.......i guess just the presence of it.....also in the pics the front looses thi kind of sharpness it has... the two points on the bumper poke out a bit....

Looks a lot like the 456 from the side especiallt towards the rear of the car.....

also i just thought of another reason popups aren't in...and thats coz xenons are in and housing HIDs in there might be a problem.

....it was DAMN crowded so couldnt even step back to get the full car in the frame!
